Geared toward those witLittle or no knowledge. Guitars may be rented relatively
inexpensively through local music stores.
guitar Basics II
This course builds upon the basic reading and chord skills developed in
Guitar I, but could also be taken by a student with a mastery of the basic
chords. The class focuses on developing techniques that can be applied to
basic chords to make them sound more musical and complex, the basic
process by which popular musicians develop materials. Included will be
the integration of simple bass lines into chord progressions derived from
real songs.
(2) Mon, Feb 25-May 13, 7 - 8 PM SBTH/FWLC Metzger
Course Code: mUSIC101 fee: $139.00
The development of reading skills is continued from Guitar I, with the expectations
that the students can intermittently play the melodies and the chords, together in
class, of the songs studied.
guitar Basics III
This course represents a more advanced approach to developing musical
materials than Guitar II. Here specific devices that create specific styles
(rock, country, metal, Latin) are introduced and applied to real songs.
Attention on simultaneously playing chords and bass lines still remains,
but attention is now also given to the alterations that can be made to the
upper notes of the chords to make the music even more interesting. Again,
the students will be expected to intermittently play in class the song s
studied. Prerequisite: Guitar Basics II or equivalent knowledge.
NEW! Opera — It’s grand! — Salome
This Richard Strauss (1864-1949) opera premiered in Dresden in 1905. It
was extremely controversial and caused an immediate sensation. It was
banned and censored on religious and moral grounds. Even today, it may
be shocking when first viewed. Powerful and glorious music includes ‘The
Dance of the Seven Veils.’ John the Baptist, King Herod, Queen Herodias,
and Princess Salome are the main leads in this London Royal Opera House
production. Maria Ewing portrays Salome. This Opera is shown on a large
projection screen with an excellent sound system. Lecture and lively
