Jewelry arts I — metalworking Basics<br />

This course, designed for the serious amateur, is structured to develop<br />

technical proficiency and stresses the importance of working carefully, skill<br />

development and precision. Class includes lecture, demonstration, and<br />

studio lab time, where instructor will guide students through a progression<br />

of technical exercises and planned projects. Materials used may include:<br />

copper, brass, bronze and sterling silver. Skills learned include: measuring<br />

and measuring tools, layout instruments, sawing, drilling and filing. Bench<br />

tools, required first class, may be rented for $10.60 (plus $39.40 refundable<br />

Jewelry arts I — Soldering Techniques<br />

Continue to hone your metal working skills and learn what you need to<br />

know about soldering for jewelry making and art metal applications. Syllabus<br />

includes techniques developed by the instructor, which will provide<br />

even the experienced metalsmith with a higher level of proficiency and<br />

craftsmanship. Learn why some established methodology is inefficient and<br />

often ineffective. Non-ferrous metals like copper, brass, bronze, sterling<br />

silver and gold may be used. Acetylene torches are available for use. NOTE:<br />

Safety will be stressed. Bench tools, required first class, may be rented for<br />

Jewelry arts II — Bezel Setting Cabochons<br />

Students will continue to gain a better understanding of metalsmithing<br />

concepts and work towards refinement of technical skills. Making a bezel<br />

from standard bezel wire, fabrication of heavy hammer-set bezels, and<br />

the making of bezel setting tools will be covered in this five week course.<br />

Bench tools required at first class which may be rented for $10.60 (plus<br />

of the trade’, students will progress toward a higher level of proficiency.<br />

acrylic Painting Beginning<br />

Learn basic painting techniques using Acrylic Paints. In addition learn color<br />

mixing techniques that will allow you to achieve a blending like effect, despite<br />

the fast drying properties of acrylics. Also, learn a layering technique<br />

to achieve a brilliant and glowing finish to your painting. A demonstration<br />

of painting techniques will be done each week along with personal<br />

one-on-one guidance given to each student as they work on their own<br />

paintings. Sample paintings will be provided to inspire you. Also covered<br />

will be proper use of the supplies as well as how to maintain your painting<br />

palette for long lasting use. Please bring a collection of photos to use as<br />

your painting reference, such as landscapes and florals, no portraits please.<br />

Beginner to Intermediate welcome. NOTE: Materials should be purchased<br />
