Unusual cars of Jowett origin seen were the Targa Tasmania Jupiter. This is a somewhat modified Jowett
Jupiter which is now resident in South Australia on full rego which competes regularly in the Targa
Tasmania. It runs standard Jowett motor and gearbox with Porsche braking components and fibreglass body
panels replacing the original aluminium. The Duckett Jupiter was present. This competition car was imported
to Australia as a chassis in 1950 and skinned with a unique racing body. Also present was a recently
imported Mead Jupiter. About 15 of these were built by Richard Mead of which 3 remain, one in UK, one in
NZ and this one in Australia. Two pre war cars attended, a 1934 Flying Fox coupe tourer from Sydney and a
beautifully restored 1934 Long 7 from Perth. (this means 7HP twin cylinder with long chassis with 2 rows of
seats!)
My Willy on the London to Brighton Down Under Trevor Unsworth
On Sunday the 28th of October I participated in the 25th Anniversary running of the
London to Brighton Down Under run for Veteran vehicles in my 1916 Willys
Overland model 75.
This event was born out of initiatives taken by Gordon and Elise Gardiner and the
Vintage Sports Car Club of SA after attending a London to Brighton in the UK.
The entry list indicated 49 vehicles, however about 41 veterans including the Dutton
Talbot and 1 motor cycle assembled in the car park on London Rd. Mile End for
10:00 am flag off by the Mayor of London (City of West Torrens actually) to our morning tea stop at the
CCC clubrooms. The run sheet was brief and simple to understand and the VSCC of SA provided a team of
Marshals to cover every turn.
Following a substantial morning tea, including of course a London Bun, we proceeded to Wattle Reserve
Brighton for a display of our vehicles.
Our final lunch stop was to follow on Colley Reserve at Glenelg.
After a flawless run in the Bay To Birdwood this was my second run in the Willys and although we
completed the run the latter part and the journey home became a challenge with an increasing slipping
