Gawler Veteran Vintage and Classic Vehicle Club Christmas Function Sandy Creek Oval Sunday 9 th December 3pm for activities for all the family Bring your vehicle, your kids and grandkids $20 Adults, $12 Children Contact Paul and Marianne Modra 8522 5647, 0427 023 632 for Tickets BRODIE BISHOP RECEIVES ROBERT SHANNON FOUNDATION AWARD The president of the Federation of Historic Motoring Clubs of SA, Steve Henderson, attended our October Meeting together with Arthur Doeke from the Federation. During the meeting Steve presented Club Member, Brodie Bishop, with a cheque from the Robert Shannon Foundation as encouragement for his work in restoring a 1923 Fiat 501 Tourer. Brodie responded in a suitable manner. He comes from a family of Historic Vehicle enthusiasts, and a photo of their vehicles including the Fiat is shown here. The cars are a 1975 Fiat 130 Berlina, a 1925 Morris Bullnose Cowley and the 1923 Fiat 501 tourer. A colour photo of the Fiat appears on the back page. Unfortunately, the Editor was not aware of this presentation occurring and no photos were taken to memorise the occasion. Congratulations to Brodie on receiving this award, it is a credit to him and also a matter of pride for our club. Following are the details of the Robert Shannon Foundation The Robert Shannon Foundation was established in 2003 to perpetuate the memory of Robert Shannon, founder of Shannons Insurance, who died unexpectedly in March 2000. Robert was an avid classic car enthusiast, who especially enjoyed his 1930 Invicta S Type. He was a strong supporter of the historic motoring movement and was concerned that it was not attracting enough younger people, particularly in the areas of the preservation and restoration of classic vehicles. AIM: After the success of the Shannons 2001 National Motoring Tour, the Australian Historic Motoring Federation (AHMF) established the Robert Shannon Foundation. The AHMF is the national body representing classic and historic vehicle clubs in all states and territories. The purpose of the Foundation is to encourage people under the age of 30 to become involved in the restoration and preservation of veteran, vintage, postvintage, historic 50’s, historic 60’ and historic 70’s vehicles up to 30 years old. The Foundation may (1) help with the purchase of specialist tools or equipment; (2) assist with the actual cost of restoration work, (3)contribute toward TAFE or other fees or (4) contribute toward any project considered worthwhile by the Trustees. ELIGIBLITY: Any person or group of people under the age of thirty years and engaged in studying automotive restoration and preservation or actively working on historic vehicles is eligible to nominate for a grant. Membership Report The following new members have recently been accepted into the club. We look forward to seeing you out and about with your vehicles At the end of November our membership stood at 309 consisting of 125 single memberships and 184 joint memberships giving a total member count of 493 Did you participate in the Bay to Birdwood? The Bay to Birdwood is an official event of the GVVCVC and as such counts towards your official attendance at club events. However no sign on sheets were available at the event so attendances have not been recorded. If you participated in the Bay to Birdwood with your vehicle as an official entrant and you wish for your attendance to be recorded please advise membership secretary Ron Stevens ph 0417 848 541 or email: cabby115@bigpond.com.
