Structural Elements
It is certainly unusual for the lower storeys to be built in
timber. In this case all structural elements are constructed
to have a fire resistance of 60 minutes. All surfaces are
coated with non-cumbustible lining. The same applies to
the staircase. The ground floor is also provided with a fire
resistance 60 minutes. In the dining room however the surfaces
are flammable. The fire compartments of the storeys
with guest rooms have a fire resistance of 30 minutes with
flammable surfaces. All insulation in the building is made
with non combustible materials having a melting point of
over 1000 degrees Celsius.
Fire Test on Glazing system
In order to keep the staircase free of fire and smoke in the
event of a fire, the glazing in this area is furnished with E30
windows. The stud-and-tie system using aluminium in
combination with a triple fire protection glazing was not
available with the corresponding certificates of approval .
Thus a fire test, which was successful, was carried out at
the EMPA in Dübendorf under the supervision of Thomas
Nussbaumer to obtain a object-specific approval by the fire
authorities.
