Examptes ofTypical Lasers or Laser Syst€m Classificstion and MPE Values for Selected Laserc Since the laser classification was designed to include all types of lasers operating at essentially any wavelength or pulse duration, the rules of classification (see 3.2) may appear complicated. To assist in the classification of commonly available fasers, Tables Al and A2 have been prcpared to aid the user in rapidly determining lhe required radiometric parameters needed to classify a laser and its applicable class once the required output parameters are known. Table Al applies to cw lasers (potential exposure time >0.25 s), and Table ,A2 applies to pulsed lasers. To classify a repetitively pulsed laser, the values in Tables Al and AZ are not generally applicable but may be used as a first step in estimating approximately what class the laser will fall into; 56 the user should then apply the rules given in Section 3 of the standard. Calculations rcquired for some classifications are presented in Appendix B. The MPE per pulse values given in Section 8 can be applied to any laser or laser system operating at essentially any wavelength, pulse duration and exposure duration. Tables ,43 and ,{4 have been preparcd to assist in determining the intrabeam MPE for the eye and skin for several commonly used lasers. Table A3 applies to selected cw lasers and Table A'4 applies to selected pulsed lasers. Calculations required to detemire &e MPE for various situations are prcsented in Appendix B.
