Dragline Dragline Dragline 3 3 3 and and Shovel Shovel 1 1 moves
moves
We’re nearly there……....DL03 has been relocating from Suttor Creek to Eastern Creek since the 6 th
May. That’s a total of 42 km and a lot of challenges have been dealt with along the way.
The dragline has made good time whilst it has been
walking. The purchase of extra cables and keeping
the substation on a float has allowed the dragline to
stay on schedule to reach the powerlines on the 7 th
June. En-route the dragline crews have dealt with
boggy conditions, public road crossings,
powerline de-energisations (to deadlines) and mine
traffic when walking along the haul roads. DL03
was parked up for almost 3 weeks on the Eastern
Creek haul road when components in the left cam
failed. The maintenance crews took this time to
also repair both the walking shoes and one of the
swing boxes.
At the time of writing, the dragline was walking to
the top of Ramp 10 at Eastern Creek and was only
a day or two away before commencement of
digging. With a new approach to blasting at Eastern
Creek, it is hoped that production figures will be
improved, compared to the last production in the
area (approx. 2006). We will find out soon.
Shovel 1 has also been relocated to Eastern Creek.
It travelled a little easier on the back of a Lamson
megalift float. After passing through the powerlines
on the 7 th June, it was only a couple of days before
it was digging prestrip material. Upon
commencement of digging at Eastern Creek it has
achieved good dig rates, which need to be
maintained to stay ahead of Dragline 3.
Credit should be given to all involved, including,
though not limited to, the Technical Services team,
the maintenance crews, the electrical crews, and the production operators involved in the relocations. It has been
a huge project getting these two machines to Eastern Creek and I am sure everyone will be happy when they are
finalised. Now that these large digging machines are in place, we need to maximise production for 2011 to have a
successful year.
