The Mega-deltas of Asia: Conceptual Model and its Application to Future Delta Vulnerability (APN 2004-06-CMY) It is imperative for further collaboration through new funding, aimed at: 1) regional workshops to disseminate information, 2) field work in selected key areas and, 3) continuation of the effort to expand the knowledge of the delta model. Such efforts are already underway with the joint IGCP-475 Delta-MAP and CCOP DelSEA project co-led by Drs. Saito and Goodbred. Limited funding (less than US $10,000) can, however, be used to support many participants from developing nations. Now, the APN Mega-Delta leaders and participants have found a renewed urgency to continue our work that began in the 1 st and 2 nd year of the APN project. 1. Summary of Progress CAPaBLE Update IGM/10/14-01 SPG/10/14-01 Following the launch of the CAPaBLE Programme on April 16 th 2003, there have been considerable developments: Year 1: April 2003-March 2004 � Announcement on the APN website and other websites in the GC community; � Preparation of a poster and pamphlet for dissemination; � Call for Proposals for comprehensive research project proposals; � CAPaBLE Programme Development Workshop in Kobe an electronic version can be downloaded from the APN website at: . � Submission of proposals from various stakeholders within the APN community; � The selection of CRP proposal reviewers and the establishment of an interim CAPaBLE Standing Committee (under the Steering Committee); � Establishment of a review process for CRPs; � Establishment of a “proposal application” for capacity building activities in 2003; � Review of CRP and CB proposals by an Interim CAPaBLE Standing Committee and external IPCC reviewers; � Selection and approval of two CRPs and eight capacity building activities; � Establishment of a logo; and � The opportunity to showcase CAPaBLE at various scientific and political fora in the region including: o PALM, Okinawa (2003) o Sustainable Development Conference, Perth, WA (Sep. 2003) o Climate & Policy Dialogue, Tokyo, Nov. 2003 Year 2: April 2004-March 2005 � 1 additional project selected for funding at the 9 th IGM in Canberra (transferred from the regular call for proposals). � The opportunity to showcase CAPaBLE at various scientific and political fora in the region including: o CAPaBLE 1 st National Capacity Building Workshop (Pakistan) supported by IHDP and IGBP, June 2004. o 14 th Asia-Pacific Seminar on Climate Change, Australia, September 2004 o IGFA Meeting, Iceland, October 2004 o 1 st IAI/APN Interregional Activity – Workshops in Brazil (August 2004) and Australia (October 2004) o 5 th Ministerial Conference on Economic Development (Side Event: Eminent Scientists Symposium), ROK, March 2005 � Headlines in national/local press and media coverage on TV in Fiji, Thailand and Pakistan. � Convened the 1 st CAPaBLE Standing Committee (CSC) Meeting o Chair Summary attached as IGM/10/14-01/Appendix 1 �95� SPG/10/14-01/Appendix 1
