MEETINGS 2012: SKY CITY AUCKLAND<br />

THE HIGHLY REGARDED Meetings tourism and<br />

travel expo, will be staged from 13–14 June 2012<br />

at the Sky City Auckland convention centre, with<br />

170 exhibitors from all over <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> present.<br />

To ensure their efforts bear fruit, Tourism <strong>New</strong><br />

<strong>Zealand</strong> is working with CINZ to bring overseas<br />

buyers from as far afi eld as the USA, China,<br />

Japan and South East Asia to Auckland for<br />

the event to boost the usually large Australian<br />

contingent of buyers.<br />

Now in its 16th year Meetings “gives conference<br />

and incentive organisers and decision-makers<br />

the opportunity to see all of <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> under<br />

one roof and to make connections with key<br />

people who can help them with the planning and<br />

execution of their next event,” says CINZ chief<br />

executive, Alan Trotter.<br />

IF YOU FIND YOURSELF TRANSITING through Auckland International<br />

Airport Terminal and need to offl oad some of your luggage, Smarte Carte will<br />

store it for you. The company’s core business is to manage airport trolleys,<br />

with operations at more than 1200 sites worldwide, including all major<br />

Australian and <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> airports. Smarte Carte have introduced a range<br />

of additional service lines designed to look after storage, baggage handling<br />

and wrapping. There are two Smarte Carte stores conveniently located at<br />

allowance. If a passenger is overseas and wants to return excess baggage<br />

to their home in <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> Smarte Carte offers a global 0800 service<br />

whereby the passenger can coordinate the shipment home to <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>.<br />

“An independent evaluation of Meetings 2011<br />

showed that more than $32m worth of business<br />

was generated over the two days, while 86% of<br />

exhibitors walked away with business. So it’s a<br />

very signifi cant event for our industry,” he says.<br />

SMART IDEA FOR AIRPORT LUGGAGE STORAGE<br />

All passengers using the Smarte Carte service will be provided with an email<br />

or text message confi rming their airway bill number, and a tracking number<br />

so that they can check the progress of each shipment via email. Delivery can<br />

be expected within in three to fi ve days of leaving their items with Smarte<br />

Carte.<br />

Baggage Wrapping – Smart Carte will wrap almost anything, including chilly<br />

bins, bicycles, surfboards, golf clubs and skis, for passengers wishing to<br />

prevent damage, tampering, or theft to their baggage and contents in transit<br />

at a cost of $10 per item.<br />

Baggage Storage – a ‘left baggage’ service where passengers can leave<br />

their baggage in a secure location for several hours or days. The company<br />

also has a fax, printing and document scanning service. Passengers have<br />

the ability to use a dedicated computer terminal to access a limited number<br />

of websites to print itineraries, submit visa applications or obtain copies of<br />

visas.<br />
