John Graham, associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />
<strong>of</strong> finance at <strong>Fuqua</strong>, was awarded one<br />
<strong>of</strong> only eight Alfred P. Sloan Research<br />
Fellowships for his paper on, “Debt and<br />
the Marginal Tax Rate,” which tackles<br />
the incredibly difficult problem corporations<br />
face: how much debt should they<br />
assume? The fellowships are designed<br />
to identify those persons who show the<br />
most outstanding promise <strong>of</strong> making<br />
fundamental contributions to new<br />
knowledge.<br />
James E. Smith, associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />
and associate dean for The <strong>Duke</strong><br />
MBA program, received the 2000<br />
Publication Award from the Decision<br />
Sciences Society for his paper,<br />
“Evaluating Income Streams: A Decision<br />
Analysis Approach.” His article was<br />
published in Management Science in 1998.<br />
This award brings his total to three, and<br />
with this new accomplishment, has<br />

deemed him the first ever three-time<br />
DAS Publication Award winner.<br />
Associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor Jennifer<br />
Francis (pictured above) received the<br />
DaimlerChrysler Award for Innovation<br />
and Excellence in Teaching from<br />
first-year students for her teaching in<br />
a core course. She teaches managerial<br />
accounting and a new elective course<br />
called Valuation and Fundamental<br />
Analysis.<br />

At the Board <strong>of</strong> Visitors meeting in<br />
November, James F. Rabenhorst was<br />
recognized for his retirement from the<br />
Board <strong>of</strong> Visitors and was presented<br />
with an award for his dedicated service<br />
and many contributions to <strong>Fuqua</strong>.<br />
He has served on the BOV since 1984.<br />
Rabenhorst has recently made the transition<br />
over to the faculty side as an<br />
executive-in-residence.<br />
Assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor Michel<br />
Regenwetter won the 1999 New<br />
Investigator Award from the Society for<br />
Mathematical Psychology. The award is<br />
given to one junior mathematical psychologist<br />
worldwide for outstanding<br />
research achievement. Regenwetter is<br />
an expert in decision sciences and random<br />
utility theory.<br />
Robert Clemen, associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />
<strong>of</strong> decision sciences, was granted tenure<br />
and Carolyn Levine, assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />
<strong>of</strong> accounting, was elevated to associate<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essor.<br />
