do you have a spouse?
do you have children?
do you own property?
If so, you need to protect your most
treasured assets. A will is one of your
best sources of protection.
A will has an additional benefit—it not only provides
for your family, it can also provide a legacy for other
things of significance in your life—like the school that
helped enhance your career.
“From my time as a student
to my involvement now in
alumni activities, Fuqua
has remained an important
part of my life. Including
the school in my will allows
me to provide a legacy to
help sustain Fuqua’s excellence
beyond my lifetime.”
> DUKE CORPORATE EDUCATION
[CONTINUED FROM PG 31]
delivery methods to meet each company’s particular needs.
The company or client must be asked several questions to
begin. First, what is their strategic issue? Second, what are
the capabilities they must build in order to achieve that
strategic issue? Third, where is the gap in their capabilities?
It is then Duke Corporate Education’s task to determine the
optimal way to fill that gap. In addition to delivering custom
programs, Duke Corporate Education is rapidly building an
advisory services team to bring multiple resources and
approaches to bear on organizational learning needs.
Duke Corporate Education is building on Fuqua’s success
with the “place and space” educational approach by delivering
customized place and space education at scale directly to
the corporate arena. “Place and space,” a term being trademarked
by Duke Corporate Education, finds the optimal
combination of face-to-face learning (place) and computermediated
learning (space). Sheppard reiterated, “The reason
companies are approaching us is that they believe we understand
the question of place and space better than anyone
else in the world. And they believe it because we’ve illustrated
it in everything we’ve done.”
When asked some of the benefits of moving into the private
sector, Sheppard used the following analogy, “Duke
Corporate Education is to The Fuqua School of Business as a
hospital is to a medical school.” In other words, it’s a place
where clinical practice can be done, studied and understood.
It provides the link that business schools need. In addition,
Duke Corporate Education is able to capitalize on research
and development and hire resources that might be difficult
to hire into a university setting.
As Sheppard summed it up, “What sets us apart from a
traditional residential environment is that we are helping
people be effective in real time while they are working
rather than preparing people for the work they are about to
take on.”
