Theme 3:Water quality in distribution systems
After water is treated to drinking water it is transported to the
customers in large underground distribution systems. In the
distribution systems the water quality deteriorates in time due
to several complex interrelated processes. The objective of this
research theme is to understand the water quality processes in
the distribution network and to propose innovations and guidelines
to prevent future water quality deterioration. Focus will
be on the effect of natural organic matter (NOM), the hydraulic
behaviour of sediment in the distribution system and the chemical
interaction between water and the piping material. Furthermore
different tools will be developed to asses the water quality in the
distribution system on-line.
Theme 4:Sustainable drinking water solutions for all
this new research theme. The (upcoming) projects in this
theme aim at critically evaluating existing treatment options
