Cees Boeter Award <strong>2007</strong><br />
On June 8th����������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� As from 2006 the award is called the Cees Boeter award. Cees Boeter was involved for almost 40 years to<br />
the laboratory of Sanitary <strong>Engineering</strong>. The Cees Boeter award is used by the department <strong>Water</strong> manage-<br />
�������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������<br />
practice. The winner of the award receives 250 Euro. The award is sp<strong>on</strong>sored by <strong>Delft</strong> Hydraulics and Kiwa<br />
<strong>Water</strong> Research<br />
For the academic year 2006/<strong>2007</strong> the following pers<strong>on</strong>s were nominated:<br />
�� Ruben Rothuizen determined, based <strong>on</strong> the analysis of the rain<br />
date, the best moment to start seeding corn in M<strong>on</strong>ze, Zambia. With<br />
����������������������������������������������������<br />
�� Suze Ann Bakker�������������������������������������������������������<br />
the c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>ing of drinking water in Surinam. She especially focues<br />
����������������������������������������<br />
�� Harmen van der Laan investigated research the fouling mecha-<br />
����������������������������������������������������������������������-<br />
��������������������<br />
�� Stijn de J<strong>on</strong>g developed a scale model to investigate Ed Veling’s<br />
theory <strong>on</strong> the rise of ground water after drainage underneath<br />
houses.<br />
The jury decided to give the “Cees Boeter award <strong>2007</strong>” to Harmen van der Laan. Besides investigating the dif-<br />

DEMO Prize <strong>2007</strong>; It is not just a prize..., it is also a prototype<br />
On June 8th, during the jubilee Summer Festival, the winner of the DEMO Competiti<strong>on</strong> was announced. Her<br />
name is Evgenia Rabinovitch, the name of the winning project. DEMO c<strong>on</strong>tributes to educati<strong>on</strong> and research<br />
at <strong>TU</strong> <strong>Delft</strong> by developing, c<strong>on</strong>structing and maintaining unique experimental set-ups, prototypes and instru-<br />
�������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������<br />
����������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������<br />
the client. DEMO has workshops in various faculties.<br />
Evgenia has w<strong>on</strong> the DEMO Prize for the design of a pilot installati<strong>on</strong> of het Msc thesis. Evgenia investigates<br />
the possibilities of the use of wind energy to desalinate sea water. The DEMIO prize has a value of 40,000<br />
euro. From this m<strong>on</strong>ey the pilot installati<strong>on</strong> will be built that will be tested in the Netherlands and also in the<br />
Dutch Antilles.<br />
