High-quality knowledge infrastructure for drinking water in the Antilles
On 15 November, a cooperative agreement was signed in Delft between the University of the Netherlands
Antilles, the Caribbean Water Technology Research Institute, the Association of Dutch Water Companies, the
Suriname Water Board and Delft University of Technology. The cooperative agreement promotes far-reaching
cooperation in higher education and research concerning the provision of drinking water supplies. The group’s
common goal is to set up a high-quality knowledge infrastructure in water-system management for the Dutch
Antilles, Aruba and Suriname.

with the aid of windmills and solar cells, biofouling of reverse osmosis membranes, hardening drinking
water using calcium carbonate granules, decentralised microbiological disinfection in the distribution net, and
the effect of new political relations on the policy aspects governing drinking water. There will also be a range
of lectures and intensive workshops on water technology organised in 2008 in the Antilles.
An initiative of the drinking water sector in the Netherlands, this agreement was drawn up by Alexander Vos
de Wael, director of the Oasen drinking water company. and ben Statia, director of Aqualectra.
