Biography<br />

Malgorzata (Margaret) Dobrowolska-Furdyna has taught physics at the University of Notre<br />

Dame since 1989. She served as an associate chair and as director for undergraduate studies<br />

in the Department of Physics between 2002 and 2005. Dobrowolska-Furdyna is the recipient<br />

of the Kaneb Teaching Award, Rev. Edmund P. Joyce Award for Excellence in Undergraduate<br />

Teaching, and the Shilts/Leonard Teaching Award. She received her Ph.D. in 1979 in condensed<br />

matter physics at the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Her research<br />

interests are in the area of magnetic semiconductors. She is author or co-author of over 220<br />

scholarly publications and was awarded the National Science Foundation Creativity Award in<br />

1995. Dobrowolska-Furdyna is fellow of the American Physical Society. Dobrowolska-Furdyna<br />

is fellow of the American Physical Society and fellow of the American <strong>Association</strong> for the<br />

Advancement of Science.<br />

This Is Not Your Father’s Classroom: Adapting Teaching Methods to the<br />

Ever-Changing World<br />

Due to rapid advances in technology, the world around us is changing at an accelerating pace. Children from a young age are<br />

computer literate and at ease with new technological tools and media. Therefore, it is imperative for the teacher to adjust to this<br />

new type of student. This lecture discusses how, with some ingenuity, technology can be harnessed to achieve this goal.<br />
