V1 6 1 has just been released It allows the usage
of new ECU software features Also some
semantic lacks will be closed The new version
is compatible with V1 5 1, so that former tools
can be used with the new version
DESCRIPTIOn
ASAM MCD-3 is an Application Programming
Interface (API) for automotive server software
applications This standard is split into 2
different areas: MCD-3 MC provides domain
specific functionalities for measurement (M)
and calibration (C) MCD-3 D provides domain
specific functionalities for diagnostics (D)
Both standards define common functionalities,
e g for project and database handling Technology
references for COM (MCD), Java (D) and
C++ (D) can be provided to help implement
the standard interfaces The diagnostic part of
ASAM MCD-3 is a joint effort with ISO, the
International Standards Organization, and will
therefore also be published as ISO 22900-3
CuRREnT STAnDARD vERSIOn
Both standards are currently being revised and
will be published as version V3 0 0 MCD-3 D is
based on version 2 0 2 whereas MCD-3 MC is
based on version 2 2 1

this variable description format The standard
has been implemented in all market relevant
tools
QuALITy ASSuRAnCE
ASAM e V offers an ASAM ASAP2/A2L
Checker, which can help avoiding incompatible
interpretations between producing and consuming
tools The checker is usable for V1 5 1
and V1 61 files A demo version is available

ASAM MCD-3 In ThE MARKET
The ASAM MCD-3 standard has been extremely
well-accepted by the market Meanwhile there
is a great number of MCD-3 compliant products
available, for both, ASAM MCD-3 servers
as well as associated client applications
An increasing number of tool suppliers are using
the MCD-3 D standard and offer products along
the whole life cycle of ECUs ECU suppliers,
engineering departments, development departments,
and after-sales departments: they can all
rely on modern diagnostic equipment based on
the standards ASAM MCD-3 D, ASAM MCD-2
D (ODX), and ISO 22900-2 (MVCI D-PDU
API) The MCD-3 MC standard can be found in
ECU calibration tools and test automation tools
ASAM MCD-3 MC is predominantly used for
new projects, such as auto-calibration scenarios
or COM-based test automation applications
QuALITy ASSuRAnCE
MCD-3 has been successfully implemented
and used in a large variety of applications: It has
demonstrated its functionality and reliability
As for MCD-3 D, the Test Suite is used to compare
and assure the standard conformity of different
server implementations Test cases for
API, ODX as well as Use Cases are available
The support of version 3 0 0 within the Test
Suite is planned for 2011
