Solutions Guide 2011
tight integration of Data acquisition
and analysis into openmDm for Standardized
Vehicle interior noise measurements
The future-oriented ASAM standard is the base for a sustainable
data management in openMDM. In conjunction with
PAK and edp, an ASAM based solution has been designed
which perfectly merges IT and user interests.
(Roland Materna,
Projekt Leader for MDM, AUDI AG)
Summary
Challenge: Efficient and consistent vehicle development
processes demand an integrated
workflow for vehicle interior noise measurements.
This includes task planning, measurement
execution, result analysis / reporting and
data archiving. For a centralized data management
and sustainable data processing over decades
a common, standardized data format is
required.
Solution: Based on ASAM ODS, an integral
workflow approach has been established. Here
both PAK (NVH data acquisition and analysis
software) and edp (generic, web-based ASAM
ODS client with incorporated data interpretation)
are seamlessly linked together with AUDI’s
openMDM implementation for measurement
task management and data navigation.
Key Benefits: Combining workflow requirements
from engineers and measurement technicians
regarding simplicity, speed and efficiency
for vehicle interior noise measurements with
the requirements of the IT department regarding
data management, security and readability,
as well as conflict management at modifications
of the descriptive data contained in the results
delivered to the central data storage.
Situation
Müller-BBM VibroAkustik Systeme provides
NVH measurement and analysis systems to
AUDI – one of the world’s most successful car
manufacturers in the premium segment – as a
technology partner in the field of vehicle interior
noise measurements and data management. For
decades AUDI has been using a dedicated system
for vehicle interior measurements which
has been limited with reference to the increasing
demands for measurements and analyses.
The goal was to replace the existing system by a
generic standard product which can be assigned
by the open source product openMDM (www.
openMDM.org), stores the data in the openM-
DM framework and is an open concept regarding
channel counts and analysis functions. Throughput
data is also supported. Project success was
achieved through interactive teamwork between
the AUDI IT, vehicle development and measurement
service department together with the software
development and data management team
from Müller-BBM VibroAkustik Systeme.
ChallengeS
By replacing the dedicated system with a standardized
solution, engineers and measurement
technicians benefit from a comprehensive solution
for the acquisition, analysis and processing
of dynamic data according to the openMDM
framework. Both tools – PAK and edp – are
plugged into the openMDM framework to handle
automated task acceptance and execution,
measurement data acquisition, analysis and visualization
of vehicle interior noise data.
According to users’ demands, PAK provides
a customized and optimized interface for the
processing of vehicle interior noise measurements
within the test vehicle, including a plausibility
check of the measurement results. edp
has access to all available data and interprets
the ASAM ODS data natively. All actions happen
in the web-browser. Users benefit from
a network-transparent access without any additional
software installations. The integration
