Roosters
The 105th year of the Roost saw loquaciousness and superciliousness in equal measure.
Debate Roosts were held in the bar and Marshall Room, since the renovation of Chapel
Court prevented access to anything more suitable. Motions included ‘This Roost
Believes That Freshers Week Is The Best Week Of Your College Life’ and ‘TRBT Fair
Trade Is Just A Fashion Statement’. Motions were passed or rejected by many votes to
few and the winner duly awarded a bottle of the finest, cheapest port offered by Esq.
Sainsbury's. Especially well-received was the speech of Ayaz Manji, highlighting to good
effect the meaning of Fair Trade and its implications for The Simpsons. Amongst other
orators at the Roosts were Jacob Green, Shyam Sakhrani and Ryan Malone.
The Breakfast-at-Lunchtime was honoured by the presence of the Master of The
Worshipful Company of Poulters of London, John Briggs, and his hen. Mr Briggs gave
an eloquent response on behalf of the guests, and was subsequently egged on. Mr and
Mrs Briggs att-hen-ded as guests of Andrew (‘Legs Eleven’ and ‘Long’) Sutton and his
hen, Jane. Andrew generously presented the Roost with a royal epistle from HRH The
Prince of Wales to the Roost. Our heart is too full for words: we thank you.
The year was brought to a close by the spirit of ffreddie Brittain, ably channelled by
Mike ‘ro chip off the old block’ Percival via a skilfully-crafted ffreddie mask, which
enabled ffreddie to be elevated as the 200th President, a tradition honouring his
contribution to the Roost.
