Matters Arising
The Secretary reported that the 2012 Annual Report was in the course of preparation and
should be distributed in November. It should contain the minutes of this meeting and a
report of the dinner.
Secretary’s Report
The Honorary Secretary reported the details of the six JCCS Travel Bursaries awarded in
2012 and a letter of thanks received from the President of the JCSU for the grant to them.
During the year Mike Fairey had stepped down as Trustee after 9 years in office and had
been replaced by Christopher Kirker. There would be 375 members and guests
attending the 2012 Dinner, a record for a recent JCCS dinner. The meeting agreed to
record a vote of thanks to the Dinner Secretary, Jim Marshall, and his wife Patricia for all
their hard work in preparing for the dinner. Music would be provided during the dinner
by undergraduates of the College playing in the Gallery.
Treasurer’s Report
The audited accounts to 31/12/2011 showed a surplus of £1,557, partly reflecting the
decision in 2010 to increase the life-time subscription of £15. The accumulated fund
stood at £76,007. The Society had been able to award Travel Bursaries of £3,000 as well
as to donate £2,500 to the JCSU. Investments were shown at cost. There had been both
sales and new purchases during the year to increase dividend income at £3,421. The
meeting agreed to receive the accounts.
Appointment of Auditor
The meeting agreed to appoint N. J. Mitchell F.C.A. as auditor for 2012.
Dinner Arrangements for 2013
The Secretary announced that the 2013 Annual Dinner would take place in College on
Saturday 28 September 2013. It would be black tie and would revert to one guest per
member. Tickets would go on sale in May 2013. The Guest of Honour would be the
Rt. Hon. Andrew Mitchell MP (1975).
Election of Officers
The meeting agreed to elect for one year Adrian Greenwood as Honorary Secretary,
Tom Slator as Honorary Treasurer and Jim Marshall as Dinner Secretary.
Executive Committee
The meeting agreed to elect the following as Members of the Executive Committee to
serve for 4 years in succession to those retiring by rotation: Richard Allon-Smith (1977),
Joanne Yates (1980), Alison Martin (1987) and Verity Armstrong (2002). The retiring
members were thanked for their contribution, especially Alice Foster who was
organising the singing of Grace by a volunteer choir of diners at the beginning of the
Mansion House dinner.
Any Other Business
The Honorary Secretary encouraged those present to attend the Spring Dinner at the
Oxford and Cambridge Club on 20 April 2013 and the buffet lunch to be held in the
Fellows’ garden on 15 June 2013. This latter event was well suited to family parties as
there was no limit on the number of guests. The event also coincides with the last day of
the May Races. A Drinks Reception would be organised for November 2013 in London.
Date of next year’s AGM
Saturday 28 September 2013 in College before the Annual Dinner. The University
Alumni weekend would take place on September 27–29.
