The development of mare quality must therefore
have top priority. One of the main goals of the mare
show system of the Hanoverian Association is to
move this development ahead, to test it and to make
it visible.

Within the Hanoverian Association the Herwart
von der Decken-Show in August holds
a superior role with respect to the development of
mare quality. The current vintage of three-year old
top Hanoverian mares is presented in direct comparison.
Within a number this years events this
mare show certainly portrays a tentative highlight
as the show is conducted in this concept.
We have only seen a few very exceptional top mares
in the last years but this year the entire collection
reflected a high denseness in quality that has
not been witnessed before to this extent. It began
with the jumper mares. The show starts with openair
free-jumping. The jumping ability as well as the
quality of movement of the mares impressed both
guest-judges Elmar Pollmann-Schweckhorst,
Bergisch-Gladbach and Scott Hassler, USA. All
eighteen mares were of athletic type with strong
dynamics and effective canter strides. Three mares
were by the sire Chacco-Blue; Lordanos, Valentino
and Clinton I were represented by two daughters
each. We saw interesting descendants of younger
Hanoverian stallions as well like Canstakko, Carenzo
and Carlucci. We saw Holstein-blood influence
on the sire as well as the dam side in pedigrees,
which were carefully built up from a Hanoverian
performance base.
The class victory in the first division went to St.
Pr.A. Chantal by Chacco-Blue/Conteur (breeder/
owner: Stefan Kleine, Warmsen). This light-footed
St.Pr.A. Liliefee by Londontime/Falkland convinced in
all criteria and became the champion dressage mare.

and elegant mare impressed with her great carefulness
and generous ability while the difficulties
increased. An impressive horse with the right attitude
towards the fences, cleverness and a good
perspective! A success for the deceased sire Chacco-Blue!
His two other daughters also did well.
St.Pr.A. Diarada KJ by Diarado/Contendro (breeder/exhibitor:
Klaus Jürgens, Sehnde-Bolzum) impressed
with magnificent performances in the second
division. This powerful Diarado daughter disposed
of very productive and animated movement.
She never showed the slightest bit of weakness at
the fences. In spite of her size and her huge movement
the mare was able to easily adjust to the distances
and jumped high fences with ease because
of her exceptional ability. With the impression she
made at the fences and her beautiful presentation
on the triangle this mare became the overall champion
of all jumper divisions.
The class of halfbred mares has shriveled down
considerably over the past years. This year we saw
a total of seven mares in this division. This sad development
was expected after having reviewed the
breeding records. The presentations of these seven
mares were inspiring though. Lauries Crusador xx
clearly dominated the field with his six daughters
just as in previous years. One mare descended
from Likoto xx. This sire attracts attention again
and again with his highly interesting offspring and
clearly deserves more attention from the breeders.
