AGRITECHNICA 2011 Travel to Hanover Dealer trips to Agritechnica Held once every two years in Hanover, Germany, Agritechnica’s infl uence spreads across the entire European continent, from west to east, north in Scandinavia to the south and the Mediterranean. Behind this Europe-wide participation is a large network of travel partners. Agritechnica sees over 350,000 participants at the show. Out of this, about 20 percent or 80,000 are from foreign countries. With such large numbers travelling to the show from outside Germany, Agritechnica clearly needs a reliable and organised network of travel partners who can respond to the challenging logistics and varied needs of these different visitor groups, be they practical demands for accommodation and transport or requests for culture and entertainment. These travel partners are experienced when it comes to organizing trips for the agricultural sector. Many dealers who travel to Agritechnica come from Western Europe. Since visitors from different countries and companies would have specifi c needs, Agritechnica’s travel partners offer a variety of packages and varying levels of support tailored to these different demands. “A lot of dealers organise their own travels to Agritechnica. They might travel in a group by coach if they are within driving distance. This in particularly so for our visitors from Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland – countries which share a border with Germany. Our travel partners in these countries are able to organize packages tailored to the specifi c needs of different groups, such as combining a farm trip en route to Agritechnica,” says Sandra Willer, visitor marketing manager for Western Europe. 10 TRADER | 1 | 2011 Michael Husfeldt: “Rewarding employees with a trip to Agritechnica”. At the last Agritechnica in 2009, the Association of Danish Agricultural Machinery Dealers organised a trip for 30 of its employees as part of its in-house training and development programme. This incentive scheme has worked well to motivate employees, allowing them also to gain new insight into the industry. “We want to give our employees, especially our administrative staff, a fi rst-hand feel of the different types of agri-machinery available in the market so that they will have an even better understanding of the business. The last trip proved to be a huge success and a good eye-opener for many of them, one which they all thoroughly enjoyed. We are defi nitely planning another trip this year,” says Michael Husfeldt, managing director of the Danish Agricultural Machinery Dealers. Scandinavian dealers invite farmers Dealers from Denmark are located just a stone’s throw away from Hanover, the venue of Agritechnica. Many Danish deal- ers also have offi ces elsewhere in Scandinavia, such as Sweden and Norway. Headquartered in Herning, Denmark, Helms TMT, the largest dealer for Schäffer, had organised a trip for farmers to Agritechnica 2009. The concept was simple but clever: Helms invited farmers who were potential customers, and in return offered a small subsidy for the trip. “Denmark’s agriculture sector is growing and there is a real need among farmers to stay abreast on developments in agritechnology and innovations for the farm,” says Kristian Helms, managing director of Helms TMT. “They want to know if they are buying the right equipment for their fi elds or making full use of the latest technology. Such queries can be answered by viewing the full range of equipment at Agritechnica and mingling with experts and other visitors at the show. Without a doubt, Agritechnica is one of the best events we have for the agri-sector in Europe.” Ireland: keen investors and interested show-goers Ireland’s Farm Tractor and Machinery Trade Association (FTMTA) is another organisation which had planned a special trip to Agritechnica 2009 for its members. Preparations for visiting Agritechnica 2011 had already begun in 2010, and dealer members of FTMTA were invited to participate in the upcoming trip. “Irish people enjoy going to trade shows. We also know that the Irish are keen buyers of machinery especially when the agricultural sector is looking positive, which is what is expected for 2011,” says Gary Ryan, general secretary of FTMTA. “We are confi dent that not only will Irish agriculture do well in the coming year, the sector is also the main bright spark in Ireland right now.” Interest from Italy With 283 exhibitors coming from Italy, the country comes second after host Germany in terms of exhibitor numbers. Not surprisingly, Italian dealers and visitors have a strong presence at the show, and make up one of the largest foreign participant numbers at Agritechnica. “This year, we are planning to contact several key dealers to support them in their travels to Agritechnica. Many dealers have also received direct invitations from their suppliers who are exhibiting at Agritechnica,” Says Dr. Raffaele Talarico, head of DLG, Italy. “Dealers interested in taking advantage of our travel partner network are more than welcome to contact any of our partners listed on our website” says Willer. The travel partners have been selected carefully using a number of criteria that meets the needs of the international agricultural traveler.
