2011 will certainly be
characterized by uncertainties
in supplies of key agricultural
commodities such as

dairy processing for cheese
and butter in Saratov Oblast,
a region in Russia. The company
employs a total of 300
staff in agricultural production
alone, and farms on an
area of 30,000 ha.

The prices of agricultural
products will increase
in the year ahead, especially
for grain. There are two factors
driving this trend: fi rst less
winter seed was sown; second,
seed itself has become very expensive.
As a result, the scale of
production will be correspondingly
lower.

in the level of confi -
dence and hence to volatile prices.
Harvest forecasts for central
and eastern Europe and Russia
will thus be particularly signifi -

unabated.

In view of the diffi cult
cultivation conditions
and relatively moderate conditions
for oilseed rape, I expect a
demanding harvest year in 2011.
It sounds absurd, but especially
in arid areas, a series of wet years
makes tilling, cultivating, management
and harvesting very
diffi cult. Improvement measures
such as drainage, levelling
and management of water bodies
are particularly important.

We intend to focus on the
issue of irrigation more
intensively. Precision farming is
becoming increasingly important
for us. Furthermore, we are
going to make use of more resource-saving
production methods.
This includes water-saving
technologies but also the more
frugal use of fuel, fertilizer and
crop protection agents.
We’re not planning on expanding
our cropping areas in
the immediate future, but we are
intending to raise production intensity.
To prepare for this, we
have invested in the right equipment
at the end of 2010.

Today we’re interested
in everything to do with
precision farming. With regards
to the choice of technology, we
are particularly interested in the
level of automation. The technical
solutions for increasing productivity
and controlling various
work processes are just as
important to us.

We hope that Agritechnica
2011 will enable us
to learn more about innovations
in the fi eld of precision farming.
We are equally interested in
fi nding out more about the latest
developments the market has

I am particularly interested
in precision farming
in connection with improving
management effi ciency and
the consumption of farm inputs.
Above all, I expect my farm to
benefi t from the various of solutions
offered by the many agritechnology
companies. Once
again how practical and suitable
a piece of machinery or equipment
is will determine the level
of acceptance.

As always I expect Agritechnica
to be a performance
showcase for agricultural
machinery and equipment.
In addition the international
public shows us which way
things are moving and what
competition we can expect in
Europe. This comparison with
competitors will play a strong
role to infl uence the further development
of our farms.
