COMPANIES AND MARKETS CSF Multione Versatile as a Swiss army knife It is used for loading and unloading, works as a chopper with intake roller, serves as a fl ail mulcher, or provides support as a concrete mixer – the wheeled loader from the Italian manufacturer CSF Multione has many faces. In just twelve years the company has risen to become one of the world’s leading suppliers of these compact loaders. <strong>Trader</strong> visited CSF Multione at the company site in Grumolo, near the North Italian city of Vicenza. The history of CSF Multione starts twelve years ago. After many years of working successfully at the Italian agricultural machinery manufacturer’s Mascar, Guiseppe Carraro withdraws from the company and concentrates on an idea that has been ripening in his mind for a long time and of which he has become increasingly convinced. “In my imagination there existed a compact loader that was robust, offered a broad spectrum of applications, could be adapted quickly to changing tasks and was thus very cost-effective for the users”, explains Carraro. While he sketches the fi rst prototypes of the future wheeled loader, Carraro has above all the broad spectrum of tasks covered by companies in the construction industry, horticulture and landscape gardening, municipal departments and agricul- Continues from page 27 also sees advantages for his own sales team in professionalising sales of used machinery. “With Harvest Park we are expanding the marketing of used machinery and equipment beyond Europe’s borders. Through support in taking equipment in part exchange, we can in future help our partners in distribution to sell new machinery from our Big Line”, smiles Overhoff. Used Big X and Big M as well as Big Packs account for only a part of the machinery mix of interest to international buyers in the Harvest Park programme, stresses Overhoff. “We are always actively on the search for well-maintained machines from the aged of three years”, reports Fehren, who will be support- 28 TRADER | 1 | 2011 tural users in mind. He expects the largest demand for compact wheeled loaders to lie in these groups and believes in good prospects of success for his idea. When his family responds positively to the new career plans, the course is set. Together with his daughter Fiorenza and sonin-law Stefano Zanini, Guiseppe Carraro then founds the company CSF Multione, rents a production shed nearby and starts with standard production of the fi rst multifunctional wheel loader. CSF Multione fabricates compact wheeled loaders and attachments “We quickly realised that we were moving in a very promising niche market with these machines”, declares Guiseppe Carraro. “However, it is crucial for permanent success in the market ed on the sales side by his colleagues Andreas Grotegard and Stefan Holtmannspötter. “How can you refi nance a new combine you buy in Germany soundly today?” he asks, and comes straight back with the answer: “It is hard to put this across with the operating hours that are achieved here. With a newer used machine that has already passed the phase of highest value loss during the initial period, it is easier to present arguments.” Fehren believe that a good 20 per cent of the machines marketed by Harvest Park will remain in Germany. The rest will go abroad. Of these 80 per cent, 60 per cent will stay in Europe and 20 per cent will travel overseas. The location, a few hundred metres away from the Schüttorfer junction and the connection to autobahn A 30, one of the most strongly frequented east-west transport routes, is a strong point in its favour. The north-south route via the A 31 offers fast access to North German ports. A number of regional airports are less than an hour away. The international hub airport of Amsterdam can be reached by rail in less than two hours. A further advantage is the vicinity of the auctioneers Ritchie Bros. Auktionsplatz in Meppen. Martin Fehren did not want to pin himself down to a forecast for the fi rst year of business. However, he rates the present starting time – following a diffi cult crisis in the agricultural machinery trade – as favourable. “We would rather grow in small doses than start off at a high level”, is his motto. The street name in the Harvest Park address – Darwinstrasse – indicates that evolution, in other words development, can be expected. At any rate there is still space to expand here. Harvest Park addresses primarily dealers and contractors. There will be a grand Open Day on 5 March 2011, offering an opportunity to get to know each other without engagement. From then on CSF Multione developed not just the compact multifunctional loaders, but also a wide range of attachment equipment. The order books fi lled up, the company fl ourished. The manufacturer soon came up against space limits in the rented production hall. In the year 2003 Guiseppe Carraro, his daughter Fiorenza and his son-in-law Stefano Zanini purchased a 65,000 m 2 site in Via Palù, the present headquarters of the company. After a short construction period CSF Multione took up production in the new production halls. In order to be able to address individual target groups specifi - cally and deploy the machines as cost-effectively as possible, CSF Multione offers several wheeled loader variants within each series. Popular among hobby gardeners and craftsman trades are the four variants of the M series. Their performance capacities lie between 12 and 28 kW.
