SPELLING IT OUT. STUDENTS GET THE MESSAGE ACROSS ON THE SCHOOL’S SPORTS FIELD.
Students and teachers at the English
International College in Marbella celebrated
Peace Day with songs and a peace pole
EIC celebrate United
Nations Peace Day
SUR IN ENGLISH
September 21st is designated a day
of ceasefire and non-violence by
the United Nations. It is a day of
unity, when the world comes together
and fighting stops in various
countries, allowing much
needed medical attention and aid
to get to where it is most needed.
At the English International
College in Marbella, students were
treated to the choir singing the
songs ‘Let There Be Peace On
Earth’ and ‘Imagine’ during an
assembly explaining the importance
of Peace Day and the positive
impact this day can have on
many lives across the world. Students
reflected on how they could
be a part of a world peace process
in many different ways, from saying
sorry to encouraging others
to organise their own events for
next year.
“I have no idea why people
fight each other,” said 11-year-old
Sarah, “can’t they see that having
a war can never bring peace?”
Following the assembly students
moved to the sports field and
were quickly marshalled into position
by staff to form the word
‘PEACE’ for a photograph.
After being involved in the assembly,
Alex aged 14, commented:
“I really feel I have been part of
something special today. Most of
the stuff on television is about
war, I had never really thought
about peace before today.”
The director of the school, Ron
Griffin, said: “Academic results
are important at EIC, but we also
feel it is important for students to
be involved in events such as
Peace Day. Events such as these
give EIC students the chance to
reflect on how they can make a
positive impact on the world they
live in both in school and in the
future. It would be nice if, next
year, other schools on the coast
could join us in some way to mark
this important day.”
