Registering on the<br />

population census<br />

Age Concern recently attended<br />

a meeting of the Foreign Residents<br />

Association from Estepona<br />

at which Juan Antonio<br />

Galiano, Head of the Census<br />

Department at Estepona Town<br />

Hall, gave in<strong>for</strong>mation on registering<br />

on the local ‘padrón’.<br />

He explained that Estepona<br />

council will be strictly applying<br />

the law, which <strong>for</strong> Europeans<br />

living in <strong>Spain</strong> (six months<br />

or longer) means that they<br />

have to renew registration<br />

every five years. Letters will<br />

go to all Europeans registered<br />

to date in October or November<br />

asking them to go to the appropriate<br />

office and re-register,<br />

where they will have to<br />

state that they are living in<br />

<strong>Spain</strong>. Those who have registered<br />

but do not live in <strong>Spain</strong><br />

will be deleted from the records.<br />

One effect of this is that<br />

people who only have holiday<br />

homes but have registered will<br />

be deleted. Finally, he said that<br />

in the future officers will be<br />

visiting properties to ascertain<br />

who is living there.<br />

Classic car club<br />

Picnic in the<br />

pine woods<br />

SOL Classic Car Club’s September<br />

event was a picnic in the<br />

recreation area of Pinar del Rey,<br />

near San Roque. Club members<br />

gathered at Laguna Village in<br />

Estepona <strong>for</strong> breakfast be<strong>for</strong>e<br />

going on a short run round San<br />

Martín del Tesorillo and Castellar.<br />

Next month the club is<br />

planning a charity run in aid of<br />

Celebration in song<br />

Last weekend was a busy one at<br />

St Andrew’s church in Los Boliches.<br />

On Saturday a craft fair was<br />

held, where there were several<br />

stalls selling everything from<br />

handmade cards to painted glass.<br />

A total of 750 euros was raised <strong>for</strong><br />

church funds.<br />

On Sunday the church celebrated<br />

its first birthday of Church<br />

Drama group<br />

Raising funds<br />

<strong>for</strong> Cudeca<br />

On the 25th and 29th June this<br />

year, El Valle Drama Group held<br />

a production called ‘The worst<br />

day of my life’ at El Trapiche restaurant<br />

in La Viñuela. The group<br />

has dedicated the per<strong>for</strong>mance<br />

to Ken Nichols, who lost his two-<br />

year battle with cancer on September<br />

18th. The aim of the show<br />

was to raise funds <strong>for</strong> Cudeca,<br />

and a raffle helped collect more<br />

money, adding to the total of 300<br />

euros. The group would like to<br />

thank Joan Nichols and everyone<br />

who donated prizes <strong>for</strong> the raffle,<br />

and also give special thanks to the<br />

audience <strong>for</strong> their continuous encouragement<br />

at every one of the<br />

group’s per<strong>for</strong>mances.<br />

Welcome back<br />

dinner and dance<br />

Last Friday fifty members of<br />

The British Society and their<br />

guests attended a ‘Welcome<br />

Back’ <strong>for</strong>mal dress dinner and<br />

dance at Villa Luisa in<br />

Benalmádena. A three-course<br />

meal was followed by dancing<br />

to the ever popular singer Paul<br />

B. Among the guests was local<br />

councillor María del Carmen<br />

Romero and her assistant Joanna<br />

Drozdowska.<br />

Camera club<br />

Friends in Focus plan trip<br />

to Mini Hollywood<br />

Following several day trips, and<br />

most recently a two-night stay<br />

at a hotel in Cazorla, Jaén,<br />

members of the Friends in Focus<br />

Camera Club are now preparing<br />

<strong>for</strong> their next <strong>out</strong>ing to<br />

Mini Hollywood, the famous<br />

film set <strong>for</strong> the spaghetti westerns,<br />

in the coastal town of Mojácar.<br />

The group will set off on<br />

October 20th and will stay two<br />

nights at the three-star hotel<br />

Puntazo, which is situated beside<br />

the beach. The total cost<br />

of the trip, which will include<br />

bed, breakfast and evening<br />

meal, will be 140 euros, and this<br />

includes entrance into Mini<br />

Hollywood. Places are still<br />

Charity event<br />

Golf Day in<br />

support of ARCH<br />

On the morning of Sunday<br />

20th September golf supporters<br />

of ARCH charity gathered<br />

<strong>for</strong> coffee and bacon sandwiches<br />

be<strong>for</strong>e a shotgun start<br />

at Calanova Golf Club. It was<br />

perfect golf weather and all<br />

had a great time playing in<br />

the Texas Scramble competi-<br />

tion plus the nearest the pin<br />

and longest drive competitions.<br />

The ladies of ARCH<br />

went round in buggies offering<br />

their support (and refreshments)<br />

at designated<br />

holes. After the golf, players<br />

enjoyed a drink and some<br />

food, followed by the handing<br />

<strong>out</strong> of the awards and raffle<br />

prizes. The first place winners<br />

were: Alun Jeans, Don<br />

Ashley, John Birch and Ronan<br />

Folwey.<br />
