Estepona
Registering on the
population census
Age Concern recently attended
a meeting of the Foreign Residents
Association from Estepona
at which Juan Antonio
Galiano, Head of the Census
Department at Estepona Town
Hall, gave information on registering
on the local ‘padrón’.
He explained that Estepona
council will be strictly applying
the law, which for Europeans
living in Spain (six months
or longer) means that they
have to renew registration
every five years. Letters will
go to all Europeans registered
to date in October or November
asking them to go to the appropriate
office and re-register,
where they will have to
state that they are living in
Spain. Those who have registered
but do not live in Spain
will be deleted from the records.
One effect of this is that
people who only have holiday
homes but have registered will
be deleted. Finally, he said that
in the future officers will be
visiting properties to ascertain
who is living there.
