A group of mothers recently attended a workshop in Fuengirola
where they were taught how to boost their babies’ development
Helping babies grow
MARI CARMEN JAIME
For the majority of new parents,
learning to understand and communicate
with their babies is difficult
without the use of language,
which is why the Equality Department
at Fuengirola Town Hall recently
organised a mother and
baby workshop to teach new mothers
how to stimulate their babies’
cognitive skills.
The four participants, some of
them first-time mothers, learnt
how giving their babies foot and
body massages and encouraging
physical and eye contact can help
boost nerve connections in the
first three years of the baby’s life
LEARNING. HOW TO MASSAGE BABIES.
and contribute to the infant’s development
in later life. The
women were also advised to talk
to their babies regularly and to
gesticulate as much as possible.
The course tutor, Bibiana Vargas,
explained to the women that it is
vital to stimulate a baby’s mind
with games, physical activity and
above all, plenty of affection. “It’s
important to understand the
stages of a baby’s development
and to awaken his or her curiosity,”
says Vargas.
The Town Hall is organising
another workshop, this time for
babies older than seven months,
and the registration period is
open now.
