The Malaga players ran out onto
the pitch on Saturday night eager
to take on the mighty Barcelona.
They managed to cling on
to their hopes for more than half
an hour, but the differences were
enormous. It was David versus
Goliath.
The Malaga players gave it all
they had but their efforts were
useless against a superior rival
who showed no mercy. Malaga
held their opponents back as
much as they could but failed to
organise a single shot at goal,
making life so much easier for the
‘azulgranas’.

Lack of attack
Malaga didn’t throw the towel in
but the blue and whites’ attack
was non-existent. It was getting
more and more difficult to hold
back their visitors and after the
second goal Barça’s control of the
game was total.
Saturday’s match produced
some less than sporting moments.
Weligton stepped over the mark
on several occasions but worse
was Dani Alves’s theatrical groaning
that prompted the sending-off
of Luque.

The Barça forward was powerful
throughout the match and especially
when he scored the first
goal. He missed a chance just before
that but he kept the Malaga
defence in check throughout.

first victory of
the season

It’s taken them a while but Estepona
now know what it feels like
to win a match in Spain’s Segunda
B (third) division. The
four-nil scoreline after Sunday’s
match against Caravaca was a
faithful reflection of play on the
pitch. The first two goals both
came from Estepona’s Catanha
in the first half, the third was an
own goal by Caravaca’s Aarón
and the fourth was scored by
Ryan in the 91st minute.
