infantry reserve corps has returned from Fort Snelling,<br />
Minn., where he was attached to the 3rd Infantry,<br />
Company L, for a two weeks' tour of active duty. The<br />
dass of which he was a member there was given<br />
special training in tank tactics and chemical warfare<br />

KENTUCKY ALPHA-DELTA Only one <strong>Phi</strong>, Ted<br />
Sdin, played on this year's varsity football team, but<br />
we shall be wdl represented on next year's squad;<br />
<strong>Phi</strong>keias Harscher, Carrell, and Watkins were all real<br />
assets to the freshman team and are expected to see<br />
plenty of action with the varsity next season. Royalty,<br />
who last year as a junior first played college basketball<br />
and ended the season high point man, was this year<br />
dected captain by his team mates. In the dass elections<br />
Simmons was chosen for the fourth consecutive<br />
year as vice-president of his dass, and <strong>Phi</strong>keia Carrell<br />
was made president of the freshman dass. <strong>Phi</strong>keia<br />
Watkins was dected president of Pitkin Club, a discussion<br />

KENTUCKY EPSILON—The chapter sent four<br />
ddegates to the Regional Convention of the Southern<br />
States in Atlanta. A very interesting r&um6 of this convention<br />
was given to the chapter upon the retum<br />
of the delegates. Flippin was appointed a member of<br />
the athletic council of the university this fall. He has<br />
also been appointed to a Captaincy in the R.O.T.C.<br />
Duty was elected president of the sophomore dass and<br />
Hillenmeyer vice-president of the junior class. Hillenmeyer<br />
and Houlihan have been initiated into Scabbard<br />
and Blade. Pershing Rifles enrolls Duty, Depp, Logan,<br />
Caldwell, Willson, Hall, and <strong>Phi</strong>keias Hanson, Swope,<br />
and McFall. An open house and buffet supper was<br />
held following the Homecoming-Thanksgiving Day<br />
game. Over twenty-five alumni registered at the chapter<br />
house during the day and many spent the weekend.<br />
The chapter entertained E K F, A A A, and X Q<br />
<strong>No</strong>vember so. The annual Christmas dinner was hdd<br />
December 15, with fifty-two actives and pledges attending.—CLARENCE<br />

MANITOBA ALPHA.—^Winter sports are daiming<br />
the attentions of many of our <strong>Phi</strong>s. Dwyer is trying<br />
for a berth on the Engineering basketball team.<br />
Leckie will play hockey for Arts. Badminton is represented<br />
by Law and Harland. The interfratemity hockey<br />
league will start about the first week in February and<br />
Manitoba Alpha will be well represented. The team<br />
consists of Leckie, Carleton, Brandson, Dwyer, McKay.<br />
Law, McKinnon, and <strong>Phi</strong>keias <strong>No</strong>yes, Curtiss, and<br />
Henderson. Last <strong>No</strong>vember the chapter held its fall<br />
initiation and eight brothers were initiated, swelling<br />
the active chapter to twenty-one. The brothers initiated<br />
were Al Maclean, Steve Trewhitt. Bob Martin,<br />
Ross McDiarmid, Don Whitehouse, Ross Smiley, Burt<br />
Maclean, and Kemie Shields. At present we have<br />
twelve <strong>Phi</strong>keias. During the Christmas holidays the<br />
chapter had two open houses after important university<br />
dances. These were well attended and everyone enjoyed<br />

MARYLAND ALPHA.—The Junior Prom, hdd at<br />
the Willard Hotd in Washington between terms, was<br />
led for second consecutive year by a <strong>Phi</strong>. Eddie Johnson<br />
hdd the honor this year, succeeding John Muncks,<br />
present Student Government Association president.<br />
Johnson is also prominent in athletics, holding a. forward<br />
position on the varsity basketball team. Lee,<br />
who recently earned a position on the debating team,<br />
has been elected daydodger representative to the<br />
Men's League. Berg, Lodge, and Dick Johnson are out<br />
for the varsity boxing squad, and Kirby is scrubbing<br />
for student manager of the basketball team. Six<br />
<strong>Phi</strong>keias were initiated during the fall semester: Brinkley<br />
Hayman, Mike Birmingham, Bob Lodge, Moir<br />
Fulks, Dick Sheridan, and Eddie Matthews. The * A ©<br />
activities cup, which Maryland Alpha gives each year<br />
to the fratemity ranking highest in activities, will be<br />
presented by President Ed Long at the interfratemity<br />
ball, to be held soon JEROME S. HARDY, Reporter.<br />
MASSACHUSETTS BETA.—At a Christmas party,<br />
each delegation gave a gift; the freshmen giving a<br />
pair of brass andirons and a brass screen, the sophomores<br />
and juniors giving another screen and a set<br />
of brass fireplace tools', the seniors another set of<br />
brass andirons—the whole set dressing up the appearance<br />
of both the large down stairs rooms in a<br />
fine way. Plans for our new library as wdl as the<br />
cdebration of- the fiftieth anniversary of * A 6 at<br />
Amherst are proceeding at a fast pace. We hope to<br />
•welcome back a large percentage of the chapter's<br />
alumni at that time. The ceremonies will take place<br />
next fall. Mid-season finds the chapter taking part<br />
in all fields of athletics, activities, and competitions.<br />
