A. Knowles was elected president of the college dass<br />

of 1939- This is the second time in the last four<br />

years that a <strong>Phi</strong> obtained the honor. Tom Carter was<br />

recently dected to T.I.L.K.A., ribbon society. Wilde<br />

and Fulton were just initiated into A K *. The chapter<br />

was host to other fratemity men at the University<br />

and their dates at an intermission party of Friday<br />

night of Easter Week. The chapter has recently relandscaped<br />

the grounds and have made considerable<br />

improvements in the house. The following men wiU<br />

not retum next year: Tom Carter, Bill Carter, Jr.,<br />

Herb Baldwin, Rc^r Stuart. Charles Prince, Charles<br />

Harkrader. Austin Hoyt, and E. L. Tolbert. These<br />

brothers have been outstanding in chapter leadership<br />

and we will be at a great loss next year to replace<br />

VIRGINIA GAMMA Two new brothers were initiated<br />

this spring: Reginald Graveley. 3rd, of MartinsviUe,<br />

and Thomas Leggett of Baltimore, Md.<br />

<strong>Phi</strong>keia Diggs was initiated into $ B E and Forehand<br />

and Wooldridge were initiated into OAK.<br />

Wooldridge was awarded a feUowship to Columbia,<br />

and Daniels a fellowship to the University of Virginia<br />

in Physics. Outstanding rfiles in the '38 graduation<br />

exerdses wiU be had by <strong>Phi</strong>s, Daniels, president<br />

of the graduating dass, Wooldridge, dass salutatorian,<br />

and Franz, who wiU present the "last will and testament."<br />

As the varsity tennis team nears the halfway<br />

mark on its schedule undefeated, three <strong>Phi</strong>s<br />

figure in largely. The tennis team members indude.<br />

Captain Clark, Balthis. and Sanders. Bootey McCormick,<br />

and Forehand are on the track team. Forehand<br />

was recently dected to the college board of publications.<br />

The intramural softball aggregration remains<br />

undefeated at mid-season. AU Panhdlenic<br />

trophies awarded thus far this year, the scholarship<br />

and athletic cups, are conspicuous on our mantel.<br />

Randolph-Macon's baseball team, which at the present<br />

time is heading the Virginia State standing, is aided<br />

in player capadties by shortstop McFall and moundsman<br />

Phelps—WILLIAM SANDERS, Reporter.<br />

VIRGINIA ZETA,—Ragon recenUy set a new record<br />

in the quarter-mile run, and Harper is also on the<br />

varsity track team. Bear and Parrott are on the varsity<br />

golf team, and Dunn and Ennenga are strong<br />

members of our successful crew. Avery is on the<br />

freshman track team, and Lykes and Baker are on the<br />

freshman basebaU team. Henderson is high scorer on<br />

the lacrosse team and was dected to * H 2. Walker<br />

is director of the university glee dub, business manager<br />

of the Troubadours, the dramatic organization of the<br />

university, and was elected to E $ K. Baker was<br />

elected to the Christian Coundl and X P 8 as was also<br />

Batten. Foltz was elected business -manager of the<br />

Calyx, the University yearbook, and also rush chairman<br />

for next year. Bimie Harper was elected vicepresident<br />

of 0 A K, and he was chosen as our official<br />

ddegate to the convention at Old Point Comfort.<br />

Carmichad was chosen as our representative on the<br />

interfratemity council. Hunt Collins was individual<br />

high scorer in the intramural track meet this spring,<br />

taking firsts in both the high and low hurdles, and<br />

WASHINGTON ALPHA.—Sceva, Olson, and Neu<br />

took first, third, and fourth places, respectivdy, in the<br />

men's slalom, giving Washington Alpha first place in<br />

the intramural ski race. Sceva, who represented the<br />

United States in the 1937 F.I.S. races, in the accompanying<br />

picture is shown receiving the trophy from<br />

Mimi LUygren the Snow Queen, Olson is holding the<br />

trophy given to Sceva for placing first and Neu is<br />

holding the skiis given as a prize for placing first.<br />

We report the initiation of twenty-two members:<br />

Bloxom, Coonan, DeLong, Dorman, Farris, Garrett,<br />

Gleason, Goodfdlow, Grant, Groth, Hodting, Knudson,<br />

Leslie, Michelson, Millbank, Neu, Ranch, Schnebley.<br />

Vine, Walsh, Ketchum, and Shortall. Our southpaw<br />

sophomore pitcher, Sam Baker, is pitching first<br />

string ball for the varsity and is weU on his way<br />

towards earning his Big "W." Groth, a freshman, is<br />

showing up wdl in frosh basebaU. In spring football<br />

we have frosh stars Coonan and Dorman. Dorman's<br />

father, a <strong>Phi</strong>, played footbaU here some years ago<br />

and his son is progressing towards filling his father's<br />

shoes. Sophomore Gleason and Juniors Lenau and<br />

Grabenhorst, a letterman, are turning out and show<br />

up very weU. Our only tennis aspirant, Shangle, is<br />

showing up weU as the time to pick the team approaches.<br />

During the recent Washington-California<br />

crew races, Thompson rowed number three in the<br />

victorious Jay-Vee boat. Growth was elected president<br />

of the sophomore dass, giving us three out of sevenmen<br />

on the Board of Control. Kirtschner did a fine<br />

WASHINGTON BETA.—With the intramural<br />

season in its last stages. Washington Beta has a good<br />

chance to come out on top. We swept voUeybaU, finished<br />

the first round of baseball undefeated, and prospects<br />

for track are very bright with almost all members<br />

partidpating. The Tau Provinis Convention was
