of Alabama, graduating from the<br />

latter in 1902. He was admitted to the<br />

practice of law and for some years was<br />

associated with his brother William H.<br />

Thomas until the latter was elected to<br />

the bench. At the present time, with his<br />

two sons he is associated in the law firm<br />

of Thomas and Thomas. He has served<br />

as president of the Montgomery Bar Association<br />

and as a member of the State<br />

Bar Commission and is prominent in local<br />

civic affairs.<br />

Sons of Jonathan Render Thomas are<br />

Jonathan Render Thomas, Jr., Washington<br />

and Lee '33, who graduated in law<br />

from the University of Alabama and is<br />

now associated with his father in practice;<br />

and Henry Randall Thomas, Alabama<br />

'36, now a student in the medical<br />

department of the University of Alabama.<br />

Edwin Crawford Thomas, Auburn 'i\,<br />

attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute<br />

and the University of Oklahoma, receiving<br />

his degree of M.D. from the latter in<br />

1914. He is a prominent physician of<br />

Miami, Fla. He was married to Miss<br />

Martha Mitchell, of LaGrange, Ga., in<br />

1925-<br />

In addition to the four brothers and<br />

their four sons, there are numerous<br />

nephews and cousins who are members<br />

of $ A ®. Among them are two sons of<br />

their mother's sister: Dr. L. W. Spratling,<br />

Auburn '86, and Roper C. Sprading, Auburn<br />

'86. The former served with distinction<br />

for many years in the medical<br />

department of the United States Navy;<br />

he was in charge of the Medical Corps of<br />

the Navy at <strong>No</strong>rfolk, Va., during the<br />

World War. He is now retired and lives<br />

at his family home, Roamer's Roost, at<br />

Waverly, Ala.<br />

There are two more first cousins of the,<br />

four Thomas brothers: Walton Dowdell<br />

Thomas, Alabama '04, who was a United<br />

States engineer at the time of his death;<br />

and Hamilton H. Thomas, Alabama "07,<br />

who is engaged in farming at Prattsville,<br />

Ala.<br />
