Posteriormente, a partir <strong>de</strong> los años 90´ (menores <strong>de</strong> 24 años en <strong>el</strong> momento <strong>de</strong> la <strong>Encuesta</strong>) se<br />
contrae la edad <strong>de</strong> inicio <strong>de</strong> los varones y un quinquenio <strong>de</strong>spués la <strong>de</strong> las muchachas<br />
imprimiéndoles a los varones un inicio más temprano en la actividad sexual.<br />
Por zonas <strong>de</strong> resi<strong>de</strong>ncia (cuadro 2.13), no se aprecian gran<strong>de</strong>s diferencias en la edad mediana <strong>de</strong><br />
inicio <strong>de</strong> las r<strong>el</strong>aciones sexuales. Para ambos sexos, in<strong>de</strong>pendientemente <strong>de</strong> la zona en que<br />
residan, se mantiene estable en los 16 años la edad mediana <strong>de</strong> inicio <strong>de</strong> las r<strong>el</strong>aciones sexuales,<br />
mientras que entre los HSH y las PPST tiene la peculiaridad <strong>de</strong> que los resi<strong>de</strong>ntes en la zona rural<br />
se iniciaron como promedio un año antes que los que viven en la zona urbana.<br />

II.2.3 Edad promedio <strong>de</strong> la pareja en <strong>el</strong> inicio <strong>de</strong> las R<strong>el</strong>aciones Sexuales<br />

Al vincular <strong>el</strong> com<strong>por</strong>tamiento sexual <strong>de</strong> los cubanos con <strong>el</strong> riesgo <strong>de</strong> infectarse con <strong>el</strong> <strong>VIH</strong>, un<br />
indicador que a<strong>por</strong>ta <strong>el</strong>ementos para explicar la vulnerabilidad <strong>de</strong> los adolescentes y<br />
especialmente <strong>de</strong> las mujeres es <strong>el</strong> patrón <strong>de</strong> inicio <strong>de</strong> las r<strong>el</strong>aciones sexuales.<br />
Si se observa <strong>el</strong> cuadro 2.14, se pue<strong>de</strong> apreciar que más <strong>de</strong>l 60% <strong>de</strong> la población ha iniciado sus<br />
prácticas sexuales con parejas mayores y <strong>por</strong> tanto, posiblemente más experimentadas. Uno <strong>de</strong><br />
cada cinco (21.9%) se iniciaron con personas <strong>de</strong> su misma edad y un 15.2% con personas más<br />
jóvenes.<br />
