HUMAN RESOURCES FOR THE INTERNATIONAL DRINKING-<br />
WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION DECADE (Summary)<br />
This article discusses the status of water supplies and sanitation in Latin America<br />
and the Caribbean, reviews the dimensions of the sector's manpower problem,<br />
and proposes solutions for it.<br />
The author considers the activities to be carried on and measures to be taken<br />
to cope with the various obstacles ahead in connection with the International<br />
Drinking-Water Supply and Sanitation Decade. He fe<strong>el</strong>s that the great need for<br />
manpower to carry on the work makes it necessary to devise new training<br />
methods and teaching instruments and new approaches such as are already applied<br />
in some of the countries.<br />
Lastly, he emphasizes the need for active participation by all those involved in<br />
the sector in one way or another, in a joint effort to arrive at satisfactory solutions<br />
and attain the objectives of the Decade.<br />
RECURSOS HUMANOS PARA A DÉCADA INTERNACIONAL DA<br />
ÁGUA POTÁVEL E DO SANEAMENTO AMBIENTAL (Resumo)<br />
Este trabalho analisa a situaaáo reinante na América Latina e no Caribe em<br />
matéria de abastecimento de água e saneamento ambiental, revisa as dimensóes<br />
do problema dos re<strong>cursos</strong> <strong>humanos</strong> <strong>para</strong> o setor e prop5e soluçoes alternativas.<br />
Em funçáo da Década <strong>Internacional</strong> da Água Potáv<strong>el</strong> e do Saneamento Ambiental,<br />
o autor examina as atividades a serem efetuadas e as medidas a serem<br />
tomadas <strong>para</strong> enfrentar os diversos obstáculos. Considera indispensáv<strong>el</strong> que,<br />
ante a grande importancia dos re<strong>cursos</strong> <strong>humanos</strong> <strong>para</strong> impulsionar os trabalhos,<br />
se adotem novos métodos de capacitaçao e instrumentos didáticos, bem como<br />
novos enfoques, conforme alguns países já estáo aplicando.
