Conclusions and outlook<br />

• Bio<strong>en</strong>ergy will make an indisp<strong>en</strong>sable contribution to a future mix of<br />

r<strong>en</strong>ewables.<br />

• Biomass resources are limited, therefore<br />

• the effici<strong>en</strong>cy along the <strong>en</strong>tire value chain needs to be optimized.<br />

• alternative feedstocks need to be utilized.<br />

• Combustion technology for wood is state of the art, for alternative<br />

feedstocks further <strong>de</strong>velopm<strong>en</strong>t is nee<strong>de</strong>d (process control, reduction of<br />

emissions, ash handling), especially for smaller units.<br />

• CHP technologies need to become available for smaller units with high<br />

availability, higher electrical effici<strong>en</strong>cy at reasonable costs.<br />

• The future of <strong>en</strong>ergy supply will be more complex the it was in the past:<br />

More professional actors and educated consumers are nee<strong>de</strong>d to find<br />
