Mysticism and interreligious dialogue:
challenges and opportunities in a secularized world
Abstract. The dynamics of ISER experience, mostly since its foundation the
concrete practice of interreligious dialogue enriched by an academic approach, has
allowed us to focus on issues barely explored hitherto in our country, including, the
links between mysticism and Jewish-Christian mutual recognition. As we know, the
link that ties, with their differences, the central currents of Jewish and Christian
contemplative traditions is the recurrent reference made by mystical writers to the
experiences of the great figures of the Old Testament and / or of rabbinical tradition
-Moses, Elijah or Isaiah, among others-, that all of them consider a «mirror» of their
own experiences of union with God. These linkages bear witness to the fertility that
Jewish-Christian mystical bequest has left us, despite the tensions that mysticism has
faced while opposing to the traditional religious structures.
