Hogthius (1980) ha facilitado información útil sobre <strong>la</strong> distribución, nombreslocales, hábitat y tamaños máximos <strong>de</strong> varias especies comerciales <strong>de</strong>lMACROBACHIUM.El MACROBACHIUM ROSENBERGTI se <strong>en</strong>cu<strong>en</strong>tra <strong>en</strong> casi todas <strong>la</strong>s aguascontin<strong>en</strong>tales, compr<strong>en</strong>didos rios, <strong>la</strong>gos, <strong>la</strong>gunas, acequias <strong>de</strong> riego, canales y estanques,requier<strong>en</strong> agua salobre <strong>en</strong> <strong>la</strong>s fases iniciales <strong>de</strong> su ciclo vital, reproduciéndos<strong>en</strong>onnalm<strong>en</strong>te <strong>en</strong> <strong>la</strong>s <strong>de</strong>sembocaduras <strong>de</strong> los ríos, este camarón es indíg<strong>en</strong>a <strong>de</strong> todo elSur y Su<strong>de</strong>ste <strong>de</strong> Asia, Norte <strong>de</strong> Oceanía y <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong>s is<strong>la</strong>s <strong>de</strong>l Oeste <strong>de</strong>l Pacífico.Requier<strong>en</strong> <strong>para</strong> su <strong>de</strong>sarrollo temperaturas <strong>de</strong> agua alre<strong>de</strong>dor <strong>de</strong> 20°C, sonomnívoros y su alim<strong>en</strong>tación llega a compr<strong>en</strong><strong>de</strong>r insectos acuáticos y sus <strong>la</strong>rvas, algas,nueces, granos semil<strong>la</strong>s, frutas, moluscos, crustáceos pequeños, carne y vísceras <strong>de</strong>pescado y <strong>de</strong> otros animales. Pue<strong>de</strong>n incluso ser caníbales si su alim<strong>en</strong>tación porcantidad y calidad es <strong>de</strong>fici<strong>en</strong>te.
