Safety instructions These Operating Instructions belong to the DICK cattle stunning device VSG-9LC (hereafter VSG-9LC) with the serial number engraved on the device. The VSG-9LC may be used only for its intended purpose. The VSG-9LC may only be used by persons over 18 years of age who are certied in accordance with 1099/2009/EC, who are familiar with the handling, usage, and safety regulations, and who can recognize the risks arising from the VSG-9LC and have been trained in the use of the device. Any national, generally valid, legal or other regulations concerning usage, accident prevention and workplace and environmental protection must be observed in addition to those of the Operating Instructions! The VSG-9LC must be checked for damages and operational safety before each use. A damaged or not operationally safe device may no longer be used. The VSG-9LC may not be red into the air (test shots only into a pine base of at least 80 mm thickness). For your own safety, we suggest sending your device to your dealer or to Friedr. Dick GmbH & Co. KG after each 5000 shots, however, every two years at the latest or in case of defects in function, immediately. We note here that, for reasons of safety, repair work and replacement of wearing parts must be performed by the DICK Service Station only. An exception is the replacement of stunning bolt (5) and damping element with spring of stunning bolt (14 + 15). The VSG-9LC and the cartridges must be stored and protected against unauthorized access, moisture, heat and re without the cartridge inserted into the device and only uncocked. DANGER: The barrel of the VSG-9LC must never be aimed at persons, body parts, or animals which are not to be slaughtered. The device may not be held at the muzzle. DANGER: If the cartridge fails to light, remove it only after approx. 30s (see point 4). Misred cartridges are to be collected and kept by the owner until safe disposal. Cartridges are to be kept in the receptacle in which they were delivered and not loose in clothing. Because a lead explosion hazardous to health can occur in closed rooms due to the cartridges, the inow of uncontaminated fresh air or air circulation must be ensured, and all national, generally applicable regulations on workplace protection must be observed! The VSG-9LC may not be used in an environment at risk of explosions. The operator and persons in the vicinity must wear appropriate eye and ear protection during use. The VSG-9LC must be serviced and maintained in accordance with the operating instructions. Always keep these operating instructions at hand at the site of use of the VSG-9LC. Read these operating instructions completely before using the VSG-9LC and comply with them strictly. Indication The numbers in brackets mentioned in these operating instructions indicate the item numbers of the referred components. These item numbers are to be found in the illustration of page 15. Intended use The DICK cattle stunner is designed exclusively for commercial use. The VSG-9LC cattle stunner must be used exclusively for euthanizing cattle. Only cattle euthanizing center-re cartridges of caliber 9x17 may be used. Use as intended also includes observing the operating instructions. Any other use or use exceeding the intended use is not considered use as intended. Friedr. Dick GmbH & Co. is not 10
liable for damages resulting from this. The user carries the risk alone. The anaesthetization of animals with a living weight 1000 kg, as well as using the VSG-9LC for embossing, punching, forming, or driving objects into any material is not permitted. Only original replacement materials from Friedr. Dick GmbH & Co. KG may be used. EC Declaration of conformity We, company Friedr. Dick GmbH & Co. KG, Esslinger Str. 4-10, 73779 Deizisau, GERMANY, hereby declare in sole responsibility that the product cattle stunning device Model VSG-9LC, with the serial number engraved on the device, corresponds to the following EU directives: EC Machine Directive (2006/42/EC). Applied European standards: DIN EN ISO 12100:2010. EC construction sample test: Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (NB 0102), Certicate DE-11-MaRLIV18-PTB05. The person authorized for collection of the technical documents at Friedr. Dick GmbH & Co. KG is Mr. Horst Löhnert, Certied Engineer (Page 3, A). Technical data Measurements: Ø50 x 75 x 315 mm, Weight: 2,2 kg. Noise emission at the workplace as per EN ISO 11201:2010 using the replacement work procedure: Noise pressure level LpAeq: 78.0 dB(A), noise power level LWa,1s: 109.2 dB(A), peak noise pressure level LpC, peak: 135.8 dB(C), uncertainty K: 3 dB. Vibration key value at grip as per DIN EN 1206:1997: Measured vibration value ahwz: 17.6 m/s 2 , uncertainty K: 7 m/s 2 . Values determined as per DIN EN ISO 20643:2008 with an interpolarity period of 3s using the replacement work procedure with red cartridges from the Dynamit Nobel brand. Permissible daily exposition value (number of shots) as per EC vibrations directive 2002/44/EC: Sampling value 193, limit value 775. Mode of function By actuating the trigger-lever (8) the cartridge is ignited by the ring-pin (1785). The gas pressure of the ignited cartridge thrusts the stunning bolt (5) out of locking piece (4) and through the skullcap of the animal stunning it (brain). Environmental protection Disused apparatuses as well as exchanged parts and packaging consist of valuable recyclable material. Please dispose of accordingly (page 3, E). Putting into operation/Handling 1. Securing the device The constructive layout of trigger-lever (8) prevents the device from triggering off when not tensioned. It is also protected against premature triggering off during tightening of ringpin (1785) should ngers of user slip off tensioning grip (1786). The trigger level (8) is additionally secured with a protective strap (20) against unintentional triggering through impacts. 2. Cartridges The VSG-9LC may be operated only in accordance with DIN EN 16264 and only with cattle euthanization cartridges of caliber 9x17 center-re with C.I.P. approval in effect. Only the color-coded loading value for the respective slaughter animal size may be used. Load strengths (example of cartridges from the RUAG company, type RSW): 11
