épidémiologiques suggèr<strong>en</strong>t que des alim<strong>en</strong>ts<br />

riches <strong>en</strong> caroténoïdes protèg<strong>en</strong>t de certaines<br />

maladies chroniques telles que le diabète,<br />

les maladies cardiovasculaires et le cancer<br />

(Ford et al. 1999, Bertram 2002). Les bananes<br />

micronési<strong>en</strong>nes riches <strong>en</strong> caroténoïdes peuv<strong>en</strong>t<br />

donc aussi protéger de ces maladies qui<br />

représ<strong>en</strong>t<strong>en</strong>t actuellem<strong>en</strong>t un problème grave<br />

aux EFM. D’autres études m<strong>en</strong>ées aux EFM et<br />

ailleurs sont nécessaires pour id<strong>en</strong>tifier d’autres<br />

cultivars riches <strong>en</strong> caroténoïdes qui pourrai<strong>en</strong>t<br />

améliorer la santé et qui se prêterai<strong>en</strong>t à<br />

une augm<strong>en</strong>tation de la production et de la<br />

consommation.<br />
