jardin. Le physique est classique, c’est un beau brun à l’allure impeccable, mais l’humour
porte la trace de l’époque : il est résolument décalé.
LES VALEURS MONTANTES
De quoi sera fait le box-office de demain ? Difficile à dire. Du côté des hommes,
l’athlète bodybuildé, clone de Schwarzenegger et Stallone, a du plomb dans l’aile.
Symbole des temps, le séducteur moderne porte en lui une bonne dose de fragilité
associée à un côté bad boy. Sa vulnérabilité fait partie de son charme. On ne l’aime
jamais autant que lorsqu’il a l’air de flancher, même s’il finit par reprendre le dessus…
Et les femmes ? La beauté style mannequin, l’esthétique déesse chère au glamour
se partagent la vedette avec l’humanité, la fragilité, l’innocence…
Les hommes
Josh Hartnett, 31 ans. Révélé par la série US Cracker, il a été consacré à l’écran par
Pearl Harbor (2001) et La Chute du faucon noir (2002). En 2008, il a fait la promotion
du parfum Diamonds for Men d’Emporio Armani.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers, 32 ans. Cet Irlandais composait un criminel craquant à souhait
dans Match Point de Woody Allen (2005). Il tient la vedette dans la série Les Tudor qui
passe actuellement sur Arte. Il est pressenti pour être Elvis Presley à l’écran.
Robert Pattinson, 23 ans. Révélé par Harry Potter et la coupe de feu, il a tourné dans
Vanity Fair en 2005 et Twilight en 2008. Il sera à l’affiche de Twilight: New Moon, dont
la sortie est annoncée pour la fin 2009.
Chace Crawford, 24 ans. Son rôle dans la série TV Gossip Girl lui a valu l’Award de
la Révélation masculine dans une série aux Teen Choice Awards en 2008. Il est attendu
dans le remake de Footloose dont la sortie est prévue en 2010.
Tahar Rahim, 28 ans. Né à Belfort, c’est la révélation 2009 du cinéma français. Il a
triomphé lors du dernier Festival de Cannes pour son rôle dans Un Prophète de
Jacques Audiard, Grand Prix du Jury.
Les femmes
Marion Cotillard, 34 ans. César du meilleur second rôle féminin, en 2004, pour Un
long dimanche de fiançailles, elle a remporté, en 2008, l’Oscar de la Meilleure actrice
pour son interprétation d’Edith Piaf dans La Môme, mais aussi un Golden Globe et
un César. Elle vient de tourner aux côtés de Johnny Depp dans Public Enemies de
Michael Mann.

Deneuve, Isabelle Adjani, Isabelle Huppert, Emmanuelle Béart and Juliette Binoche
have kept alive those French qualities still highly appreciated abroad.
Among the men, the French style was established by Jean Gabin, confirmed through
the 1960s-70s by those two ultimate charmers, Alain Delon and Jean Paul Belmondo,
and is now represented by a brigade of actors whose styles vary: modern romantic
hero, consequently a touch tortured (Louis Garrel), angelic-faced handsome lad (Gaspard
Ulliel), serious student (Guillaume Canet), brooding toughie (Vincent Cassel,
Romain Duris). Right now the leading light is without a doubt Jean Dujardin. His physique
is that of the classic dark-haired handsome guy with impeccable allure but his
personality bears the stamp of today, i.e. distinctly offbeat.
RISING VALUES
So what will the box-office favourites of tomorrow look like? Hard to say. On the male
front, the body-built athlete of the Schwarzenegger/Stallone type is losing ground.
Symbolic of our times, the modern charmer is characterised by a good dose of fragility
combined with a bad-boy side. His vulnerability is part of his charm: never as
loveable as when he looks like he's losing the plot, even though he always comes out
on top. And the ladies? That cat-walk-model beauty and the goddess look so beloved
of glamour share the limelight with humanity, fragility and innocence.
The men
Josh Hartnett, age 31. He first came to notice in the US series Cracker then made it
on the big screen in Pearl Harbor (2001) and Black Hawk Down (2002). In 2008 he
promoted Emporio Armani's Diamonds for Men fragrance.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers, age 32. The Irish actor played a delightfully irresistible cri-
minal in Woody Allen's Match Point (2005). He stars in the TV series The Tudors pre-
sently showing on Arte and is tipped to play Elvis Presley on screen.
Robert Pattinson, age 23. He first attracted attention in Harry Potter and the Goblet
of Fire then played in Vanity Fair (2005) and Twilight (2008). He has a leading role in
Twilight: New Moon due out in late 2009.
Chace Crawford, age 24. His role in the TV series Gossip Girl won him the 2008 Teen
Choice Awards prize for best new male actor in a series. We'll be seeing him in the
remake of Footloose due out in 2010.

Lindsay Lohan, 23 ans. Une carrière qui débute dès l’âge de 3 ans par des publicités.
Elle affiche une filmographie déjà bien remplie et sa vie privée déchaîne révélations
et scandales. Elle est attendue en 2010 dans The Other Side de David Michaels.
Kristen Stewart, 19 ans. Elle s’est illustrée notamment dans la trilogie Twilight, dont
le 2e épisode va sortir. Elle est aussi à l’affiche de deux nouveaux films : Welcome to
the Rileys, où elle incarne une prostituée, et The Runaways, où elle tient le rôle de la
chanteuse Joan Jett.
Hafsia Herzi, 23 ans. Révélée en 2007 par La Graine et le mulet d’Abdellatif Ke-
chiche, qui lui vaut le Prix Marcello

l’affiche de Ce que pensent les

Marion Cotillard, age 34. She won the 2004 César award for best supporting actress
in A Very Long Engagement then in 2008 received the best actress Oscar, a Golden
Globe and a César for her interpretation of Edith Piaf in the eponymous film. She's just
filmed Michael Mann's Public Enemies with Johnny Depp.
Lindsay Lohan, age 23. Her career began at the tender age of three, in advertising.
She already has a substantial filmography under her belt and a private life awash
with revelations and scandals. In 2010 she'll be on screen in David Michaels's The
Other Side.
Kristen Stewart, age 19. She was excellent in the Twilight trilogy, the second episode
of which is due out in France soon, and has
leading roles in two new films: Welcome to
the Rileys, in which she plays a prostitute,
and as singer Joan Jett in The Runaways.

actress. Since then she has acted in six

(2003) then consolidated her reputation in
the Woody Allen films Match Point (2005)
and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008). This
year she was in Ken Kwapis's He's Just Not
That Into You.
