Enveloppe jaune provenant du tapuscrit
de Maigret s’amuse, signé et daté :
Golden Gate, Cannes, le 13 septembre
1956.
L’enveloppe jaune est une étape du rituel
d’écriture de Georges Simenon, née par
hasard lors de la rédaction du premier
Maigret où l’auteur griffonne quelques notes
sur une enveloppe jaune, ce qu’il instaurera
ensuite en habitude. Ces enveloppes
comportent au recto le titre de l’ouvrage
ainsi que les différents personnages et leurs
caractéristiques principales et au verso
des mentions circonstancielles sur le récit.

Yellow envelope from the typed draft
of Maigret s’amuse signed and dated:
Golden Gate, Cannes, 13 September 1956
The yellow envelope is an important step
in George Simenon’s writing ritual. It fi rst
happened by chance when he wrote his
first Maigret novel when jotting down ideas
on a yellow envelope. It later became a
habit. The recto contains the title of the
book and its different characters as well as
their characteristics and the verso contains
the circumstantial mentions on the story.
