Sam Francis, Maler und abstrakter Expressionist,<br />
lebte in Kalifornien und galt als<br />
„homo trans-atlanticus“ unter den amerikanischen<br />
Künstlern.<br />
Seine Motive sind subtiler, europäischer und<br />
gleichermaßen filigran wie signalhaft.<br />
Sam Francis, painter and Abstract Expressionist, lived<br />
in California and was viewed among American artists as a<br />
“homo transatlanticus”. His motifs have more subtlety to<br />
them, more of Europe, and are equally filigree<br />

a vécu en Californie; pour ses homologues américains, il<br />
représentait l’« homo transatlanticus ». Sa démarche<br />
est d’une subtilité plus européenne, sa peinture filigrane<br />
pleine de signaux.<br />

multilayered pictorial spaces only then when brush and<br />
spatula come into play.”<br />
