When I was arrived in my new master„s house it was very
difficult because I was separeted from my family. My master was
a famous person George Washington. I knew that he was
famous person because when the man bought me he said “ I‟m
Nicolas Monk, the odd-job man of George Washington, the
president!” And ten salesmen went to see him. Mr Monk bought 20 negroes, and me too. So when we
were collected to Virginia , in the Mount Vernon. It was a surprise to see the houses, the decoration. It
was so different to Africa. But I liked. We have been separated in 5 groups: the servants, the cooker,
the gardens, the cleaning lady (reserved for the woman‟s) and the security officers. I was chosen in the
cooks group. So it was very difficult at the beginning because the head chef it was very severe. Slaves
were whipped, hit and punished. Everybody hate the head chef. I liked just one white person: George
Washington. He was a generous person. He gave me everyday a piece of bread. He graduate the
plantation master when they punched the slaves to much. In my second years at the Mount Vernon, the
head chef fall ill. He death 2 months later. So George Washington chosen me for are the new head
chef. It was not simple, It was so difficult but is better good for we: the slaves, because I‟m a Negro
and I‟m a slave.
