Two years later …
I and other slaves had gone to take water. Two guards named James Waters and William Torsers
followed and whipped. The pain was atrocious. We stopped because we heard the sounds of horses. I
was not very reassured. One moment later, there was a man with his horses who had come. He present
and his name was John Rowels. He asked kindly and delicately what we were doing here. The two
guards got angry then one of the two guards fired into the air with his gun to scare me. John Rowels
laughed. James Waters wondered he didn‟t care.
John Rowels asked released because they killed the
two wicked guards. Then the two guards said "certainly
not" then John Rowels shot on both guards. He asked us
which one of us knew how to use guns. I hesitated and I
raised my hand. He approached me and asked me to
follow him. I was very scared. But I was obliged to follow
him because he was armed. I have left with John in his
carriage and we had gone together. He explained to me
what he was doing with his life, he was a bounty hunter, and that was he was paid to kill people. All my
life, I stayed with a man and we are being killed. I caught confidence in me and caught confidence in a
white man.
