Augusta, 1809. A causa di una rissa fi nita male, Katharina, una giovane bavarese,
e suo marito Franz sono costretti a lasciare la Baviera e a fuggire nella
terra d’origine di Franz, il Tirolo. Là, nel cuore delle Alpi, la situazione è
tesa. I bavaresi e i francesi, che occupano il Tirolo da quattro anni, vengono
disprezzati dal popolo. Alla bavarese Katharina viene riservata un’accoglienza
fredda presso la famiglia di Franz. Da tempo lontano dalla sua patria,
Franz si fa prendere dall’entusiasmo per il movimento di Andreas Hofer,
oste e condottiero degli Schützen, che sollecita i contadini tirolesi alla rivolta
contro lo strapotere dei bavaresi e dei francesi. Franz parte per la guerra.
Katharina, rimasta sola, deve aff rontare giorni diffi cili nel maso, fi no a quando
riesce a conquistare il rispetto della famiglia di Franz e dei paesani. I tirolesi
tornano vittoriosi dalla battaglia a Bergisel, ma la guerra non è fi nita e
viene il tempo, per i giovani soldati, di ripartire. Katharina trova il modo per
impedire a Franz di tornare in guerra, ma per questo viene scacciata dalla
famiglia. Trascorrerà così l’anno dell’insurrezione da bavarese in Tirolo, non
sapendo che il suo destino e quello di Franz saranno strettamente legati a
quello di Andreas Hofer.
Augusta, 1809. Because of a brawl that ended badly, Katharina, a young Bavarian,
and her husband Franz are forced to leave Bavaria and seek refuge in
Franz’s homeland, Tyrol. Th ere, in the heart of the Alps, the situation is tense.
Th e Bavarians and the French, who have occupied Tyrol for four years, are
despised by the locals. Katharina is received cooly by Franz’s family. Franz has
been away from his country for a long time, and becomes enthusiastic about
the ideas of Andreas Hofer, an innkeeper and leader of the Schützen, who
urged the Tyrolese farmers to revolt against the excessive power of the Bavarians
and French. Franz departs for the war. Katharina, left alone, must face
diffi cult days on the farm, until she succeeds in winning over Franz’s family
and the villagers. Th e Tyrolese return victorious from the battle at Bergisel,
but the war is not over and the time arrives for the young soldiers to leave
again. Katharina fi nds a way to prevent Franz from returning to war, but for
this she is driven away by his family. She will pass the year of the insurrection
in this way, a Bavarian in Tyrol, not knowing that her destiny and Franz’s
will be closely tied to that of Andreas Hofer.
