Da tempo immemorabile la popolazione islandese ha un rapporto molto
intimo e misterioso con lo Snaefellsjökull, una montagna-vulcano-ghiacciaio

Since time immemorial, the population of Iceland has had an intimate and
mysterious relationship with Snaefellsjökull, a mountain-volcano-glacier in
the extreme west of the island. Th is volcano was made famous by Jules Verne,
who indicated it as the door that led to the center of the earth. And it holds
magical and evocative sites, such as the great spiral in the meadow, which
seems the place where everything began, or its peak with the great monolith,
that evokes the Olympus of the gods. Th e Mysteries of Snaefellsjökull is an
audio-visual reportage and a work of research that combines documents and
testimonies. It is a visionary voyage that accompanies the spectator through
an exploration of the legends that revolve around this mythical, mysterious
mountain. Finally, it is the discovery of a similar world and a fantastic tale.
Jean-Michel Roux
Nato a Nancy (Francia) nel 1964, Jean-Michel
Roux è un regista autodidatta. Ha diretto il suo
primo fi lm, Quartier Sauvage, che è stato anche
il suo primo viaggio nel mondo fantasy, all’età
di 19 anni. La scoperta dell’opera di Philip J.
Dick gli ha dato l’ispirazione per i successivi cortometraggi
e per il suo primo fi lm a soggetto,
Les mille merveilles de l’univers. A partire dagli
anni Novanta si interessa alle credenze e alle
leggende islandesi, girando numerosi fi lm e
documentari in Islanda.
Born in Nancy, France, in 1964, Jean-Michel
Roux is a self-taught director. At age 19, he
directed his fi rst fi lm, Quartier Sauvage, that
was also his fi rst voyage into the world of fantasy.
His discovery of the work of Philip J. Dick
inspired his subsequent short fi lms and his fi rst
feature fi lm. Les mille merveilles de l’univers.
Since the 1990s he has been exploring the beliefs
and legends of Iceland, where he has made
numerous fi lms and documentaries.
