La costa di Palau si affaccia sul mare
del Parco Nazionale dell’Arcipelago
di La Maddalena ed i paesaggi sommersi
presentano una sostanziale omogeneità
con quelli delle isole, dominati da
un lato dalle forme del granito che continuano
sott’acqua quelle emerse, dall’altra
dalla presenza di organismi tipicamente
adattati alle forti correnti che si incanalano
nelle Bocche di Bonifacio e tra le isole.
Lungo la costa di Palau ci si immerge nei
pressi dello Stentino di Capo d’Orso, dove
sui massi del fondo crescono le gorgonie
rosse, oppure sulla secca che, di fronte a
Punta Sardegna, risale da un fondo sabbioso
a circa 27 metri fino a 13-14 m dalla superficie.

UNDERWATER LANDSCAPES
The coast of Palau overlooks the sea
constituting the National Park of
the Archipelago of La Maddalena.
The underwater landscapes are substantially
similar to those present throughout the islands,
dominated by the continuation of granite formations
present above the surface on the one
side, whilst on the other by organisms which
have typically become adapted to the strong
currents channelling through the Strait of
Bonifacio and between the islands. Along the
coast of Palau underwater immersions are particularly
advantageous in the area of Stentino
di Capo d’Orso, where the rocky sea bed is populated
by the red gorgonia colonies or on the
sandbank situated opposite Punta Sardegna,
rising from a sandy seabed at a depth of
approximately 27 metres reaching up to 13-14
m below sea level. Palau moreover is one of the
outstanding points from which to start underwater
excursions throughout the Park, and
numerous localities already bear the effect of
this protection of the environment, such as the
Washington Sandbank in Spargi characterised
by a remarkable abundance of fish reminiscent
of a Mediterranean of the past. Palau hosts a
number of diving centres registered on the
Regional List of Underwater Tourist Operators,
a guarantee of professionalism and high
quality services.
