15. MAINTENANCE AND CARE<br />

Have a chimneysweep check the correct installation, connection to the chimney and aeration.<br />

IMPORTANT: only spare parts which have expressly authorised and offered by La Nordica can be used. In<br />

case of need, please contact your specialised dealer.<br />

THE APPLIANCE CANNOT BE MODIFIED!<br />

15.1. FLUE CLEANING<br />

The correct ignition procedure, the use of suitable quantities and types of fuel, the correct positioning of air<br />

register, sufficient chimney draught and the presence of combustive air are essential for optimum appliance<br />

operation.<br />

During normal use, the chimney is not subject to being damaged in any way.<br />

The appliance should be thoroughly cleaned at least once a year or whenever necessary. An excessive<br />

deposit of soot (creosote) can cause problems in fume exhaust and fire in the flue itself. Cleaning must<br />

only be carried out when the appliance is cold.<br />

This operation must be performed by a chimney sweep, who can make an inspection at the same time.<br />

Excessive incrustation deposits on the inner walls of the hearth considerably reduce the efficiency of heat<br />

exchange; therefore, remove these deposits using a steel brush whenever necessary. Never use<br />

corrosive substances that can damage the thermo-fireplace and the boiler.<br />

During cleaning, remove the ash drawer, the grille, and the smoke deflectors from the appliance so that the<br />

soot will fall out. The deflectors are easy to remove from their seats as they are not secured with screws.<br />

When you have finished cleaning, position them back in their seats.<br />

ATTENTION: The absence of the deflector causes a strong depression, leading to excessively fast<br />

combustion and excessive wood consumption, with consequent overheating of the appliance.<br />

15.2. GLASS CLEANING<br />

Through a specific secondary air inlet, the formation of deposits of dirt on door glass is effectively slowed<br />

down. It cannot though ever be avoided with the use of solid fuels (damp wood in particular) and this is not<br />

to be considered as a defect of the appliance.<br />

After checking to make sure that the door is completely lowered, use the key provided to unlock and open<br />

it. Clean the window and re-close before raising the door.<br />

IMPORTANT: The viewing window must only be cleaned when the appliance is cold to prevent it<br />

from exploding.<br />

To clean the glass, use specific products or make a ball of newspaper, dampen it and run it through the<br />

ashes, and rub the glass.<br />

GLASS BREAKAGE: As the windows are made of ceramic glass resistant to heat up to 750°C they<br />

are not subject to thermal shock. The glass can only be broken by mechanical shocks (impact or<br />

violent closure of the door, etc.). Therefore, replacement is not included in the warranty.<br />

15.3. CLEANING OUT THE ASHES<br />

All the LA NORDICA appliances have a hearth grille and a drawer for collecting the ashes.<br />

We recommend that you empty the ash drawer periodically and do not let it fill completely in order to avoid<br />

overheating the grille. It is advisable to always leave 3-4 cm of ash in the hearth.<br />

ATTENTION: The ashes removed from the hearth should be place in a fire-retardant container with sealed<br />

lid.The container should be placed on a fireproof floor, far from flammable materials, until the material is<br />

completely extinguished and cooled.<br />

15.4. MAINTENANCE ON THE EXTENDIBLE GUIDES<br />

To ensure that the doors of the single-block units have a silent, reliable, and durable operation, they are<br />

fixed onto extendible ball bearing guides. With continuous use of the appliance over time, the lubricant of<br />

the guides tends to gradually diminish, making them harder to slide and noisier.<br />

For this reason, each appliance is supplied with a syringe of high temperature grease so that the user can<br />

lubricate the guides when it becomes necessary (excessive noise or friction when sliding).<br />

After having raised the door completely, use the syringe provided to apply two beads of grease<br />

(corresponding to 0.5 ml on the graduated scale of the syringe) on the inside on the track at the highest<br />

point possible. Pay attention not to exceed the recommend amount of grease.<br />

Repeat this operation on the other track, and raise and lower the door several times so that the grease is<br />

distributed on all the ball bearings.<br />
