Doubts could however arise concerning requisites set by<br />
norm 1090 regarding surface treatments (and the companies<br />
that carry out such treatments) of steel and aluminium<br />
components destined to form metal structures in turn requiring<br />
CE Marking.<br />
Norms1090-2and1090-3(thatspecificallyconcernsteel<br />
and aluminium structures respectively) refer to the respect<br />
of norms regulating refinishing (ISO 12944-7 for steel, EN<br />
12206 for powder-coated aluminium) and to other norms<br />
thatconcerntreatmentscarriedoutpriortopanting.<br />
Specifically, norm 1090-3, regarding painting of aluminium<br />
components, states that “Specification, quality assurance<br />
and quality assessment can be done in the framework of<br />
recognised European quality programmes ……. For powder<br />
coatings EN 12206”.<br />
Webelievetherearenodoubtsthat “RecognisedEuropean<br />
quality programmes” include not only technical regulations<br />
but also Specifications and/or Technical regulations<br />
of such European quality markings as, for instance, QUALI-<br />
COAT for coated aluminium, QUALANOD for anodized aluminiumandQUALISTEELCOATforcoatedironandsteel.<br />
This is also the case because such directives can provide<br />
better quality assurance than the mere technical process<br />
and product regulations, as they also foresee the respect<br />
of adequate procedures for production control both as<br />
concerns self-performed controls as well as third party inspections.<br />
Advantages that derive from obtaining these certifications<br />
are self-evident:<br />
themanufacturersofthestructurethatpainttheitems<br />
within their production plants would be equipped with<br />
an instrument that could prove the reliability of the work<br />
done, as a durability guarantee for structural elements;<br />
manufacturers deciding to entrust a subcontractor with<br />
painting may simplify qualification of their suppliers who<br />
would have the best requisite (certification itself) as a<br />
guarantee of the work done<br />
Manufacturers’ and refinishers’ assignments<br />
Themanufacturerisassignedthetaskofpreparinga“painting<br />
specification” - agreed upon with the refinisher – that<br />
represents an extension of the manufacturer’s FPC, without<br />
interrupting the product’s traceability.<br />
Considering only iron constructions, a painting specification<br />
should contain, where applicable, the following elements:<br />
• Type of substrate (steel or zinc-plated steel)<br />
• Substrate surface preparation grade<br />
• Painting system used (as per ISO 12944<br />
or QUALISTEELCOAT specifications);<br />
• Corrosion and durability grade for which the<br />
coating system is designed<br />
• Type of coating (powder or liquid)<br />
• Type of varnishing products;<br />

Il processo di rivestimento mediante verniciatura è una delle<br />
modalità per garantire un certo livello di protezione nei confrontidellacorrosionedeglielementistrutturalid’acciaioe<br />
lanormaEN1090-2identificairequisitielelineeguidaper<br />
leaziendediverniciatura.ÈprevistoinfattichelelavorazioniedilrelativoProcessodiControllosianogestitiinaccordoall’AppendiceFdellanormaedallenormedellaserieISO<br />
12944 in esso richiamate.<br />
Non esistono dubbi sul fatto che questa marcatura deve essereappostadalcostruttore/assemblatoredellastrutturametallica<br />
finita e che il requisito della marcatura CE non è richiesto<br />
al verniciatore che effettua il trattamento superficiale dei<br />
singoli componenti.<br />
Potrebberoinvecesorgeredeidubbisuirequisitirichiestidallanorma1090aitrattamentisuperficiali(eallaaziendeche<br />
effettuano gli stessi trattamenti) dei componenti in acciaio e<br />
in alluminio destinati alla realizzazione di strutture metalliche<br />
soggette alla marcatura CE.<br />
