for steel in
corrosion class C4

to maintain for at least 15 years (high durability) the efficacy
of its anti-corrosion coating:
• Corrosion class C3H → RESISTANCE 480 H
• Corrosion class C4H → RESISTANCE 720 H
• Corrosion class C5H → RESISTANCE 1440 H
The designer/builder must develop a close cooperation
with the refinisher, so as to identify the most suitable system
for the specific request and obtain from the refinisher
a declaration of conformity of the chosen system.
Therefinisherisindutyboundtodeclarethefollowing:
•Coating system used (according to ISO 12944 or based
on QUALISTEELCOAT specifications) and the specific
coating products;
• Totalthicknessoftheappliedcoatingandthicknessesof
the single coating layers;
• Results of the adherence, brilliance and corrosion resistance
tests in neutral saline mist (unless the coating system
is certified by QUALISTEELCOAT).
The refinisher will provide the client with the control fact
sheets including the records of tests carried out in the mechanical
and/or chemical pre-treatment phases and during
painting(asforeseenbythepaintingspecification.
The durability data declared in the PS (Performance Statement)
by the manufacturer must be coherent with the
specifications of the structural component.
Thefollowinginformationmustbeprovided:
•Surface preparation methods
• Imperfection preparation grade (as per ISO 8501-3)
• Types and reference norms of the
applied surface treatment (e.g. painting
according to ISO 12944-5)
For powder painting, reference may
be made to painting systems whose
performances have been evaluated
according to ISO 12944-6 (e.g. varnishing
systems qualified according
to QUALISTEELCOAT specifications).
There is no obligation for the refinisher
to certify the FPC (Factory Process
Control) by means of a Notified
Organism. It is however necessary
that the manufacturer show that the

• il costruttore che affida a terzi la verniciatura, può semplificarelaqualificadelpropriofornitorecheavrebbeadisposizione
il requisito ottimale, appunto la certificazione, a garanzia
del proprio lavoro.
Compiti del costruttore e del verniciatore
Il costruttore ha il compito di redigere un «Capitolato di verniciatura»
– concordato con il verniciatore – che costituisce
un’estensione del FPC del costruttore, senza interrompere la
tracciabilità del prodotto.
Limitandociallecostruzioniinferro,uncapitolatodiverniciatura
deve contenere, ove applicabili, i seguenti elementi:
• Tipodisubstrato(acciaiooacciaiozincato);
•Grado di preparazione della superficie
del substrato;
• Sistema di verniciatura utilizzato
(sec. ISO 12944
osec.specificheQUALISTEELCOAT);
•Classedicorrosivitàedurabilitàper
cui è designato il sistema di verniciatura;
• Tipo di verniciatura (a polveri o a liquido);
• Tipologia dei prodotti vernicianti;
• Numero degli strati di vernice (primer,topcoat,ecc.)espessorideisingoli
strati applicati;
• Spessore totale dello strato verniciato.
Unaspettoimportantedastabilireapriorièladurabilità
che, secondo ISO 12944-1, può essere prescelta tra uno dei
seguenti tre livelli:
• bassa (L) = da 2 a 5 anni
• media (M) = da 5 a 15 anni
• alta(H)= piùdi15anni
Altrettanto importante è la valutazione della corrosività
dell’ambiente nel quale dovrà essere installata la costruzioneche,perlaISO12944-2,deveconfigurarsiinunadellecategorie
presentate nella Tabella 1.
