when you are actually only a few minutes from the
Duomo. It has taken seven years to convert the building
to its new status: the Fratini family invested
in the project without looking back, involving 39
craftsmen largely from the area”. And yet, it was
not easy at the start, seeing that 2008 marked the
beginning of the largest economic crises since the
20s. The Four Seasons couldn’t announce its opening
well in advance as usually happens in these cases.
“We pre-opened for Ludovica’s wedding, Corrado
Fratini’s daughter,” Cipollini explains, “then
closed again and finally opened officially. The first
three years were paralyzing but we then caught
up and broke even with our schedule. Since then
the growth has steadily increased so much that our
staff grew from 198 to 297 employees also thanks
to the present owners (first and foremost the Qatari
Hamad Jassim Al Thani)”. Important names
on the global jet set scene have stayed at the Four
Seasons from Mick Jagger to Bruce Springsteen,
from Tina Turner to Vasco Rossi and so on. “But in
Borgo Pinti,” glosses the manager, “VIPs are treated
like normal people and we treat normal people
like stars”.

Eppure, all’inizio non è stato facile, visto
che proprio nel 2008 è iniziata la più grande crisi
economica dagli anni Venti. Il Four Seasons non
poté annunciare l’apertura con grande anticipo,
come è invece prassi. “Abbiamo pre-aperto per la
festa di matrimonio di Ludovica, la figlia di Corrado
Fratini - spiega Cipollini - poi richiuso i battenti
e infine aperto ufficialmente. I primi tre anni sono
stati penalizzati, ma abbiamo recuperato fino a rimetterci
in pari con la tabella di marcia. Da lì la
crescita è stata costante, tanto che il personale è
passato da 198 a 297 unità, grazie anche agli attuali
proprietari (in primis il qatariota Hamad Jassim
Al Thani)”. Dal Four Seasons sono passati nomi
importanti del jet set mondiale, da Mick Jagger a
Bruce Springsteen, da Tina Turner a Vasco Rossi
e così via. “Ma in Borgo Pinti - chiosa ancora il
direttore - i vip li trattiamo come gli altri, e gli altri
li trattiamo come le star”.
