EDITORIAL Frédéric Lorin Director, IFTM Top Resa MAP Pro Directeur, IFTM Top Resa MAP Pro Richard Barnes Editor-In-Chief Getting from A to B Is Getting More Pleasant Than Ever The transport sector is booming (see page 13), but whether it’s because of more people wanting to travel, or it’s actually the cause of more people travelling is an interesting point of conjecture. Indeed, the growth in low-cost air travel around the world has largely been the root of tourism growth in the regions served by these airlines. The combination of savvy destination marketing through clever partnerships with transport companies is no doubt one of the secrets of success. But what’s new today is the addition of new, fun, bright, colourful alternatives, such as the just announced Joon initiative by Air France (see page 17), which not only add marketing buzz, but truly add value in terms of customer “delight”. The end result is more travellers, but more importantly, more happy travellers. Se rendre d’un point A à un point B devient plus agréable que jamais Le secteur des transports est en plein essor (voir page 13), mais est-ce dû au fait que de plus en plus de personnes souhaitent voyager, ou estce la raison pour laquelle de plus en plus de personnes voyagent ? Voici un point de conjecture intéressant. En effet, le développement du transport aérien économique dans le monde a été en grande partie à l’origine de la croissance du tourisme dans les régions desservies par ces compagnies aériennes. La combinaison savante entre le marketing des destinations et des partenariats intelligents avec des entreprises de transport est sans aucun doute l'un des secrets du succès. Mais ce qui change aujourd'hui, c'est l'ajout d'alternatives nouvelles, ludiques et colorées, telles que l'initiative Joon annoncée il y a deux jours par Air France (voir page 17), qui ne créée pas seulement du buzz marketing, mais surtout ajoute de la valeur en termes de plaisir du client. Le résultat final est certes plus de voyageurs mais, surtout, plus de voyageurs heureux. Morning Briefing by Frédéric Lorin We’re very honoured today to host the visit of more than one high level government representative: Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and the Minister for Overseas France, Annick Girardin. Indeed, she has no doubt been highly occupied with the recent disastrous storms that struck French territories such as St Martin. Today sees the 24-hour Hackathon come to an end this afternoon. It will be a moment of relief for doubt, and in any case a moment of rejoicing for some! Nous sommes très honorés d'accueillir aujourd'hui deux ministres du gouvernement français : Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Secrétaire d'État auprès du ministre de l'Europe et des Affaires étrangères et Annick Girardin, Ministre des Outre-Mer, cette dernière ayant été récemment très occupée par les ouragans désastreux qui ont frappé les territoires français comme Saint-Martin. Aujourd'hui verra aussi le Hackathon de 24 heures prendre fin dans l’après-midi. Ce sera un moment de soulagement pour tous, mais aussi de joie pour certains ! Other not to be missed happenings today include the FNTV cocktail party and the Business Travel Awards, and this evening will mark the end of this year’s MAP Pro – a particularly successful vintage! If you haven’t toured the Cruise Village, which has grown considerably this year, I strongly suggest doing so. And of course, I must above all underline the importance of the Sustainability Village – in this, the Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. Enjoy the show!
